What did the Cheez-It Bowl used to be called?
The Cheez-It Bowl had a couple of former names, and two different locations.
The current history of this bowl dates back to Miami in 1990 when it was born and continued for 11 years as the Blockbuster Bowl. Florida State played Penn State in the first game.
According to cheezitbowl.com, Florida Citrus Sports wanted a second bowl in Orlando, and because attendance to the game in South Florida had waned over the years, the Blockbuster Bowl headed to Orlando but was renamed the Tangerine Bowl. There were other names, too, including the Champs Sports Bowl.
The other Cheez-It Bowl actually was in Arizona, where in 2018 the brand took over the name of The Cactus Bowl game played there annually. Cheez-It became the title sponsor of the Orlando game in 2020.
