How Do You Win A Golden Glove In Mlb

The awards for the best defensive players in Major League Baseball are close to being announced, in a list that includes players such as Texas Rangers champions Nathaniel Lowe, Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, as well as Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo.

The best defensive player awards are called the Golden Gloves, which are given to one player per position in both the American League and National League.

There are three candidates per position and for each league (American and National), and the players are voted on by the 30 managers of the MLB teams, in addition to the six position coaches of each franchise.

These votes account for 75 percent of the voting, while the other 25 percent comes from the SABR Defensive Index, which is based on and aggregates two types of existing defensive metrics.

The first is derived from data based on batted ball location and compiled from play-by-play counts, including data from Statcast, Sports Info Solutions and MLBAM’s STATS Perform.

The SABR Defensive IndexTM (SDI) is a measure of the number of runs saved by a player’s defensive performance over the course of a season compared to the average defensive player at that position.
