Michael Penix Jr. emulated the millions of Washington Huskies fans who could not bear to look as the match went down to the wire. His job was done for the day with another stunning performance, completing 18 of his 33 passes for 204 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, but the outcome was out of his hands.
With just five seconds left and the scores tied 21-21, Washington kicker Grady Gross had the chance to immortalize his name. All that was standing between him and a Huskies victory was 42 yards. He kicked that ball hard and true and snatched the win, 24-21.

After the game finished in their favor, he turned around but had a jacket covering his face as if to hide his emotions. This may well have been the final game of his six-year college football career.

However, he also pointed out that the Tampa native has had a bit of a downer as the season transitioned into its business end. Not only that, but there’s a massive flaw in his play.
He [Penix] struggles to create on the move or while under pressure, especially well. Vegas needs a top-notch scheme or blockers in front of him.
If Vegas doesn’t pursue him, there are bound to be others (Patriots, Bears, Giants) who could do with a quarterback who completed 3,695 passing yards, 30 touchdowns, and just 7 interceptions with a QB rating of 83.0 (10th overall) in 12 games. Only time will tell, but before that, he and Washington will close out the season with a Pac-12 showdown against the Oregon Ducks.
