After a brief investigation, Virginia police have cleared internet rapper Bryan Silva in connection with a deadly shooting at the University of Virginia (UVA) on Sunday.
However, Silva was arrested as a precaution and later charged with two other offenses after he came to the police’s attention for a series of “concerning” social media posts in the hours leading up to the incident.

Suspect Christopher Darnell Jones was taken into custody around 12 hours after the shooting, which left three dead and two injured.
Earlier on Sunday, Silva had come to the attention of social media users for posts on his Facebook account. People were quick to tag the Charlottesville Police Department (CPD) and the University of Virginia Police Department.
“During the course of [Sunday’s] tragic events, the University of Virginia Police Department and the UVA threat assessment team were alerted to threatening social media posts made by Mr. Bryan Silva. The university has no reason to believe that Mr. Silva’s posts are associated with yesterday’s tragedy,” a police spokesperson told Newsweek.
Although Silva is presumed innocent in relation to the shooting at UVA, he was later arrested and charged on two different counts by the Charlottesville Police Department.

“At approximately 4:00 p.m., Charlottesville detectives obtained and subsequently served a search warrant for an address associated with the suspect in the 200 block of West Main Street in the City of Charlottesville,” the CPD said in a statement.
“As a result of their investigation, 31-year-old Bryan Michael Silva was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, and possession or transportation of firearms, firearms ammunition, stun weapons, explosives or concealed weapons by convicted felons,” the statement said.
Silva was also served an outstanding/active protective order issued by the Albemarle County General District Court, and held without bond at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.
“At this time, CPD does not believe Mr. Silva’s threats were related to the tragic events that occurred last night at the University of Virginia,” the CPD’s statement concluded. “However, we understand the fear this caused in our community and acted swiftly to resolve this investigation.”
The announcement of Silva’s arrest on Facebook was met with several positive comments thanking the police.
The shooting at UVA occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night, but hours earlier, Silva had posted a threatening message on his Facebook account.

“I want u v a to know what pain and suffering is,” Silva wrote. “They put me through that everyday of my life here and laughed in my face. I want them to feel how I feel. I will sell everything I have to make that pain and suffering happen.”
He also posted several pictures of bullets and firearms.
Silva is an internet personality, rapper and OnlyFans model who gained notoriety in the 2010s for his videos. He even appeared on an episode of comedy show Tosh.0 with Daniel Tosh, on which he discussed being in trouble with the law and his catchphrase “Gratata.”
On other social media accounts seemingly belonging to him, he refers to himself as “Gratata Kickz.”
Three players from the UVA football team were killed as a result of the shooting on Sunday night: D’Sean Perry, Lavel Davis Jr., and Devin Chandler.
