Samsung System files taking too much storage
However, some Samsung users have been troubled by an issue for a while. Apparently, the System files are oddly consuming a large amount of storage space in their devices (1,2,3,4,5,6).
On my S22 Ultra it says that system takes up 50.38GB of storage out of the 90GB total being used. Glad I went with the 512GB version… feel very sorry for anyone who got the 128GB variant that also only has 8GB of RAM. That phone got kneecapped big time. Source

System taking too much storageI have a Galaxy S22 Ultra, and the system is taking 99.07GB of storage when I have the 128GB model. How is that possible? Any way to fix it? Source
Whenever users open the ‘Storage’ tab, they discover that the System has occupied the majority of their disc space.
In fact, several users recently reported that the Galaxy S23 series used 60GB of internal storage for just One UI 5.1.
But what actually happens is that Android exaggerates the size of the system partition to make up for the discrepancy between gigabytes and gibibytes by displaying it as larger than it actually is.
Possible explanation
Moreover, according to a source on Twitter, Android determines the amount of storage required by the system by deducting the storage needed for everything from the total storage utilized.
They even go on to explain why the storage assigned to the system diminishes after granting Storage settings in One UI permission to determine app storage size.

This may be why – as several users have pointed out – after giving Storage settings in One UI permission to calculate app storage size (tapthe (i) button), the storage attributed to the system decreases. Source
It’s also quite plausible that in order to avoid cluttering the ‘Apps’ area, the device simply collects all of the app data and labels it as ‘System” data.
We hope that the explanation provided above gives the affected Samsung users clarity as to why the System files are taking up too much storage.
It’d be even better if the developers commented on this matter officially.
