When does the Shamrock Shake come out at McDonald’s 2023?

The Shamrock Shake officially returns to McDonald’s on Monday, February 20 in 2023, the fast food chain has revealed.

That’s a whole day earlier than last year, with the much-loved Irish-themed beverage arriving on February 21 in 2022.

However, some Shamrock Shake fans are claiming their local branch is already selling the drink almost two weeks early.

There isn’t an official end date, but the creamy drink stays on the menu for around four weeks, until St Patrick’s Day on March 17.

After the holiday, the Shamrock Shake is taken off the menu, but you can sometimes still get your hands one for a few more days.

If McDonald’s restaurants have leftover ingredients and are feeling kind, they may make you one – but there are no guarantees.

Oreo Shamrock McFlurry returns too

Alongside the Shamrock Shake, the much-loved Oreo Shamrock McFlurry is returning to American McDonald’s on February 20 too.

The ice cream arrived in 2020 to celebrate the shake’s 50th anniversary and has returned to the menu every February since.

It has mint-flavored ice cream blended with crushed Oreo cookies and will be available nationwide for a limited time, while supplies last.

History of the Shamrock Shake

After being created by the Connecticut-based franchise owner in 1967, the Shamrock Shake officially debuted on some American menus in 1970.

In 1974, sales from the beverage helped to build the first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia to help families with sick children.

Six years later, McDonald’s launched the Shamrock Sundae, a vanilla soft serve ice cream topped with mint green Shamrock syrup.

It didn’t go nationwide until 2012, and chocolate was added to the milkshake for a limited time in 2017 for a sweet twist.

In 2020, the shake went international for the first time ever and was sold in both Canada and Ireland around St Patrick’s Day.

McDonald’s fans eagerly await its launch every year and 2023 is no different. Counting down the days until February 20!
