Where Are Honda Crvs Made

The Honda CR-V is arguably the most versatile crossover on the market today.

It boasts considerable passenger room and cargo space and has a well-designed interior that’ll please buyers.

In this article, we find out where the Honda CR-Vs are made.

Where Are Honda CR-Vs Being Made?

Honda assembles the CR-V models at different locations in:

  • Asia,
  • Europe
  • and North America.

In Asia, production locations include:

  • Sayama, Japan;
  • Wuhan, China;
  • Pingtung, Taiwan;
  • Ayutthaya, Thailand;
  • Alor Ghaja, Malaysia;
  • Karawang, Indonesia;
  • and Greater Noida, India.

In North America, these include:

  • El Salto, Jalisco,
  • Mexico; Alliston,
  • Ontario, Canada;
  • Greensburg, Indiana and East Liberty,
  • Ohio (both in the USA).

Production of the Honda CR-V for international markets started in 1995 at Honda’s production plants in Japan and the UK.

Meanwhile, production of the CR-V in North America started in 2007 with plants in:

  • East Liberty, Ohio,
  • and El Sato, Jalisco, Mexico.

The company later extended production to other Honda plants in:

  • Alliston, Ontario, Canada (2012),
  • Greensburg, Indiana, USA (2017)
  • and Marysville, Ohio, USA (2018).

Are CR-V for the U.S. Market Produced in the U.S.?

Most CR-Vs sold to Americans are produced at manufacturing plants in Indiana and Ohio, both in the USA.

Nevertheless, some CR-Vs on the US market also come from the Honda manufacturing plant in Alliston, Ontario, in Canada.

According to US News, the Honda CR-V is one of the most American-made SUVS, as many of its parts are locally made.

Are They Being Assembled in the U.S.?

Honda assembles the CR-V both in the USA and in Canada.

CR-V assemblies in the US include; Marysville, Ohio; Greensburg, Indiana; and East Liberty, Ohio. In Canada, the Alliston, Ontario plant handles the assembly of the CR-V.

Unlike regular models, assembled in other places asides the US, hybrid CR-Vs are assembled solely in the US. Honda assembles hybrid variants of the CR-V at the Greensburg, Indiana plant.

How Can You Check Where a Specific CR-V Was Produced?

You can know your CR-V’s production location by checking its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

The VIN is a 17-character code that contains information about your vehicle, including the country of manufacture and date of manufacture.

The first character of the VIN identifies a vehicle’s country of origin.

Vehicles from Europe and Asia have letters as the first character in their VIN. Conversely, vehicles from North America have numbers as the first character in the VIN.

For instance, the VIN on American-made CR-V vehicles start with 1, 4 or 5. It is the same for models made in Canada and Mexico whose VINs start with 2 and 3, respectively.

Meanwhile, the VIN on Japanese CR-Vs start with the letter J.

Are Japanese or European Built CR-V Better?

As far as we can tell, there’s no difference in quality between Japanese or European built CR-V vehicles.

Japanese-built CR-Vs come from Sayama, Japan, while European-built CR-Vs come from Swindon, England.

Honda applies the same level of quality assessments across both factories, so the quality of vehicles remains the same.

Where Is the CR-V Designed?

For a long time, Honda has designed the CR-V at its design studios located in Europe, Asia and North America.

In fact, the CR-V was the first vehicle Honda’s in-house design team handled for a Honda-made SUV.

Where Are CR-Vs Made for the Australia Market?

Honda builds CR-Vs for the Australian market at the Ayutthaya plant in Thailand.

In fact, the hybrid CR-V isn’t available for Australian buyers simply because the Ayutthaya plant doesn’t produce it.

Where Are CR-Vs Made for the Canada Market?

CR-V models sold on the Canadian market are assembled at the Honda of Canada Manufacturing plant in Alliston, Ontario, Canada.

Is Honda Planning to Move Its Production?

There are no indications that Honda will move production away from its current plants both in the US and other countries.

Honda has always committed to making vehicles close to where it sells them. This is why it has multiple factories assembling the CR-V across the world.

Moreover, demand for the Honda CR-V continues to rise, especially in the US.

Thus, Honda is looking to open additional plants to support production. For example, it added the Marysville, Ohio plant in 2018, as the other plants could not handle demand for the CR-V.

Is Honda Hiring or Firing in the U.S.?

Honda has announced no large-scale layoff of US workers, although it placed many on unpaid leave due to falling sales which forced it to cut production volumes..

Automotive companies have attempted to cut costs by laying off workers temporarily, so Honda’s case isn’t peculiar.

Our research found recent listings on Indeed.com and Glassdoor for vacancies at Honda plants in the US. Based on this, it’s safe to say Honda may do some hiring across its facilities in the US.

Is Honda an American Company?

Honda is a Japanese company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Despite its Japanese roots, Honda has a strong presence in the US. For instance, it was the first Japanese company to establish a US subsidiary (American Honda).

Moreover, Honda makes and assembles most of its cars sold to Americans in the US.

Honda was one of the best performers on the 2020 Cars.com American-made index, a ranking of the most “American” cars. It had three cars on the list, including the Ridgeline, Passport, and Odyssey.
