Who Is Kitty’s Half Sibling In Korea

Who is Kitty’s brother in XO, Kitty? HITC explains with spoilers.

The To All The Boys movies earned a passionate fandom when they premiered on Netflix between 2018 and 2021, and they certainly left audiences clamoring for more time with the characters. Well, we may not have Lara Jean back, but we do have her younger sister Kitty back and, this time, center-stage in XO, Kitty.

Created by Jenny Han, the spin-off series premiered on Netflix on Thursday, May 18th, 2023, and follows Kitty as she begins to sculpt a new life for herself in Korea while reconnecting with her boyfriend, who was established to be long-distance in the To All The Boys films.

She may not have her older sister around for help, but there’s a pretty compelling mystery surrounding siblings at the heart of the show. Speaking of which, who is Kitty’s brother in XO, Kitty?

Who is Kitty’s brother in XO, Kitty?

Kitty discovers while going through Eve, her mother’s, old things at the hospital that she had a child when she was in Seoul. This leads to her finding out that she has a half-brother. Doing some more digging, she learns that the boy was given up for adoption. The parents hail from Australia, but this doesn’t prove to be the dead-end she initially anticipates.

One of the professors at her college, KISS, is none other than Alex Finnerty, a man of Korean descent who relocated from a life lived in Australia. Kitty discovers he was adopted, forcing her to contemplate that Alex is her sibling. However, a bombshell is dropped when she discovers that she doesn’t have a half-brother after all.

Alex is Yuri’s biological brother, not Kitty’s. His motives for returning to Korea weren’t simply to teach, he wanted to learn the truth about his birth parents too. As it turns out, the school’s principal Jina Lim and Professor Lee are Alex’s real mother and father. Jina wrote Eve’s name on the hospital forms, thus opening up a can of worms for all involved.

At the end of the season, it’s established that Kitty may have two older sisters, Margot and Lara, but she doesn’t have a half-brother after all.

XO, Kitty fans react

Viewers have shared their thoughts on the plot point through tweets on Twitter, shooting their guesses and pondering how everything connects:

Why was Alex given up for adoption?

Opening up a mystery, the audience may wonder why Jina and Professor Lee gave Alex up for adoption rather than raising the boy themselves.

Well, Jina and Lee were together, but Lee was working and studying in America when she discovered she was pregnant. Feeling that it would force Lee to return home from his work at a conservatory, furthermore encouraging him to focus less and less on his planned future, she decided to keep the baby a secret.

When Alex returned from the US, the baby had already been given up for adoption and he was none the wiser.
