When Do The Playoff Rankings Come Out

The 2023 college football season is heading into its final days as conference championship week is in full swing with the postseason just on the horizon.

LIVE: Latest news on final College Football Playoff rankings

Both the College Football Playoff picture and the Heisman Trophy picture have taken a much firmer shape, and both will be finalized sooner rather than later.

The way that things have gone to this point gives a strong indication that Michigan and Washington will be a lock, with Florida State almost certainly in the final four as well.

Alabama’s upset of Georgia ensured there will be drama no matter how the selection plays out, however, with the committee likely forced to pick among the Tide, Texas and perhaps the Bulldogs for the final slot.

Projected CFP rankings: Who are the top four teams in college football?

1. Michigan (13-0, 9-0 Big Ten)2. Washington (13-0, 9-0 Pac-12)3. Florida State (13-0, 8-0 ACC)4. Alabama (12-1, 8-0 SEC)

Next two out:

5. Texas (12-1, 8-1 Big 12)6. Georgia (12-1, 8-0 SEC)

Michigan, Washington and Florida State should be comfortably in as undefeated conference champions.

Alabama’s win over Georgia in Saturday’s SEC Championship not only ended the Bulldogs’ nearly three-year winning streak, it likely knocked the two-time defending champions out of the CFP picture.

The question for the committee then becomes: Alabama or Texas? The Longhorns won the head-to-head matchup in Tuscaloosa in the second week of the season, so it could come down to how the committee views that loss by the Tide compared to Texas’ lone defeat against Oklahoma.
