As brands expand manufacturing across the globe, car buyers are finding it harder to pinpoint where a car is actually made. If you’re considering a Maserati, you may be asking “Where is Maserati made?” Fortunately for our Red Bank-area neighbors, Maserati is one company that has kept its manufacturing in Italy. Since the company started in 1914, every vehicle in their lineup has been manufactured in Italy. Below, we dive into the rich history of Maserati.

Maserati vehicles may be manufactured in Italy, but is Maserati itself Italian? Without a doubt! The brothers Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore, and Ernesto Maserati founded the automaker in 1914, in the town of Bologna in northern Italy. The headquarters were relocated an hour away to Modena in 1940, where genuine Maserati parts and vehicles are still produced to this day!
If you’re looking “Where is Maserati from?”, check out more company history:
- The Maserati logo featuring a trident is a tribute to the famed Fountain of Neptune in the Piazza Maggiore in Bologna. It was designed by Mario Maserati, a brother of the Maserati founders who worked as an artist in Bologna.
- The Maserati mission is to “build ultra-luxury performance automobiles with timeless Italian style, accommodating bespoke interiors, and effortless, signature sounding power.”
- The Maserati plant in Modena, Italy, is open to visitors. You can take an hour and a half guided tour of the showrooms and factory assembly line of models like the Gran Turismo.
- When it comes to additional manufacturing plants, what country is Maserati made in? The answer is still Italy! The company has added the Agnelli Plant in Grugliasco, Italy (where they make the Quattroporte and Ghibli) and the Mirafiori Plant in Turin, Italy (which makes the Levante SUV). Both plants can be found about three hours north of Modena, close to the French border.
- After being owned by a few different parent companies over the decades, Maserati is now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) since 1993, and is in a brand group with Alfa Romeo, a fellow Italian luxury car company. FCA is a multi-national Italian/American corporation headquartered in London, UK and Amsterdam, Netherlands. Since its ownership by FCA, Maserati has seen steady growth in the auto industry.
- Maserati partners include fashion designers like Bulgari and Ermenegildo Zegna, who have lent their skills to luxurious Maserati interiors. The audio tech company Bowers and Wilkins is another noted partner, designing the premium Maserati sound systems.
