It doesn’t matter whether you’re home at the time of delivery. No tip whatsoever is necessary when all they do is drop the thing off.
Bad customer service
You shouldn’t give a tip if the customer service provided was subpar. Let’s face it – not all delivery drivers are doing a good job and not all companies have good logistics.
This is how some people ended up with a rude mattress delivery guy, others had to wait for much longer than the promised window of time, and some got super annoyed while watching their delivery guy rush through the setup instructions of their new smart bed, only to leave without setting it up properly. If they don’t carry the mattress to where they were supposed to or fail to honor their part of the deal in any way, that’s poor service.

If they had to work more, like take it up to the third floor, or make an extra effort around tight spaces, the tip should be about $30 per person. Anything above that would be considered a very generous tip.
