Micah Materre is an Emmy award winning journalist and anchor of the WGN Evening News at Five and Six and the WGN News at Nine and Ten. Prior to being appointed anchor of the WGN News at Nine in 2009, she was co-anchor of WGN Midday News from January, 2003 to October, 2009.
Micah joined Chicago’s WGN-TV in January 1998 as a WGN Morning News co-anchor and medical reporter. Micah has anchored all of the newscasts at WGN, as well as covering entertainment news and special assignment stories, including the historic inauguration of America’s first black President. In addition, Micah reports and co-produces the “Chicago’s Very Own” bi-weekly segment for WGN News and she is the host of WGN’s public affairs program, “People to People”.

Micah is one of Chicago’s very own as she was born here and grew up in the city. Micah spent eight years at WJBK-TV in Detroit where she was a main anchor and general assignment reporter. While at WJBK, Micah’s work garnered numerous awards and accolades, including an Emmy and an award from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters. Prior to moving to the Motor City, Micah cut her teeth in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a general assignment reporter and weekend anchor. She began her career in broadcasting in 1983 at NPR affiliate, WBEZ radio in Chicago, producing and reporting for four years. In addition, she taught radio production at Columbia College. Micah has more than 30 years’ experience as a journalist and broadcaster.
In 2014, Micah received a Chicago/Midwest Emmy, and was also honored as being a diversity trailblazer by Barnes and Thornburg LLP.

She has been featured in several local and national publications over the years, including the New York Times Magazine, Glamour, Ebony, Good Housekeeping, Today’s Chicago Woman, ‘Who’s Who’ in Black Chicago, Michigan Avenue Magazine and RedEye.
She serves as commentator, mistress of ceremonies and honorary chairperson to several community and civic organizations across Chicagoland. Micah is on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Children’s Choir and serves on Tutoring Chicago’s Advisory Board. She is a member of the civic organization, Links, Incorporated, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the National Association of Black Journalists.
