How To Get Donald Glover Hair

Donald Glover is an icon and one of the “mane men” I give the highest props. Not only is his style on point, but his talent as an actor, singer, rapper, comedian, writer, producer, and director is unmatched. But back to Glover’s style. A recent GQ-UK article profiled Glover, AKA Childish Gambino. It offered up some tips on how to achieve his effortless hair and beard. Here are a few excerpts:

Donald Glover, AKA Childish Gambino, is one of the most successful men on the planet.

He’s also got his style down, and has made countless best-dressed lists (he took the top spot on our very own in 2019). …Additionally, he’s got one of the best ’dos (and beard) to match, which he has grown out and allowed to flourish in equal measure to his successful career.

We asked Tariq Howes, the expert barber at Cardiff’s Avenue Male Grooming, to show us how to get it.

“Donald Glover’s hair here is super easy to achieve as far as styling goes.”“The key to this style is patience – it’s a grown-out cut that has probably taken well over a year, and I would say the less shape, and the more textured the hair is by natural growth, the better.”

“Day-to-day, I wouldn’t worry about combing your hair out – the more natural the texture and the more misshapen the hair is, the better. When your hair is dry, … give it some moisture and shine. Work this through your entire head of hair.”

“After that, I would use a curl sponge to add more texture. To achieve this, you hold the curl sponge to the head and move it in a circle motion all around the head to create some really cool twists, breaking away from the silhouette of the hair and ultimately finishing off this style.”

“As for his beard, it seems he’s also going for the more natural look as it hasn’t been cut into any specific shape. Nevertheless, it has been groomed, most likely with scissors, to ensure it doesn’t grow out too wildly. To soften your own beard and give it a nice shine and hold, I would use a beard oil…”
