Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands of Spain. Europeans of all ages flock to this Mediterranean Island for the beaches, party scene, cycling routes, shoulder-season hiking, and the GR221 long-distance hiking trail.
Mallorca accommodates all types of travelers and vacationers. The key to having a great trip is to figure out where to stay.

Mallorca Accommodations Map
1. Port de Pollença
Port de Pollença (Puerto Pollensa) is an attractive seaside town in Northern Mallorca on the Bay of Pollença.
Backed by the Tramuntana Mountains and Formentor peninsula, this laid-back, family-friendly town offers visitors a gorgeous setting to unwind, promenade, and relax by the sea.
Port de Pollença is a fantastic place to stay, because it affords easy access to both sandy beaches and rugged mountains.
It’s also positioned at the start/end of the Ma-10, a gorgeous mountain road which weaves through the Serra de Tramuntana.
If you’re building a road trip itinerary, we recommend making the Ma-10 the backbone of your route. From Palma de Mallorca, you can travel to Port de Pollença via the gorgeous mountain towns of Valldemossa, Deià, and Sóller along the Ma-10 road. Here’s an example itinerary:
- Arrive in Palma de Mallorca, Stay in Sant Elm, or Port d’Andratx (1-2 nights)
- Stay in Valldemossa, Sóller, or Port de Sóller (2-4 nights)
- Stay in Port de Pollença (2-4 nights)
Alternatively, you can travel to Port de Pollença from Palma de Mallorca via the direct Ma-13, which is only a 50 minute drive.
Things to Do around Port de Pollença
Cala Bóquer
Cala Bóquer is a picturesque cove set at the end of Bóquer Valley. You can walk to this isolated cove directly from town, by following the Camí Boquer walking trail. The 5.6 km out-and-back walk takes 2 hours total. Read the full hiking description in our round-up of Best Hikes In Mallorca.
Formentor Peninsula
Formentor Peninsula is a narrow, mountainous peninsula famous for its magnificent viewpoints and hidden coves.
The Ma-2210 road connects Port de Pollença with Cap de Formentor. However, there are seasonal traffic restrictions in place during high season.
The hiking trails in Formentor are rugged and mostly not signed. The hike to Fumat and Cala en Gossalba are described in Mallorca Rother Walking Guide
- Viewpoints: Mirador Es Colomer (Google Maps) and Mirador del Racó d’en Tomàs (Google Maps)
- Coves: Cala Figuera, Cala en Gossalba, and Cala Murta
- Peaks: Fumat
Alcúdia Peninsula
The beautiful Alcúdia Peninsula separates the bays of Pollença and Alcúdia in North Mallorca. The walled city of Alcúdia is a worthy day trip from Port de Pollença, as it’s only a 20 minute drive away.
Before visiting the town, we highly recommend hiking this Talaia d’Alcúdia and Platja des Coll Baix Circuit Trail. Talaia d’Alcúdia is the highest point on the peninsula and Platja des Coll Baix is a gorgeous, secluded beach.
There are some lovely accommodations in Alcúdia, including ARA Alcudia, Can Tem Turismo de Interio, and Forum Boutique Hotel & Spa – Adults Only.

4. Valldemossa
Valldemossa is a picture-perfect town in the central Tramuntana mountains in west Mallorca. Located in a fertile valley surrounded by terraced fields and olive tree groves, its appeal lies in its old-world charm and medieval townscape as well as its natural surroundings.
The town center is made up of stone buildings, accented with green-painted shutters, and narrow, cobbled streets lined with potted plants. Nearly every residence sports a colorful tile depicting the life of Santa Catalina Thomás (Catherine of Palma), the canonized saint born in Valldemossa in 1533.
Here’s our guide to visiting Valldemossa.
During your stay, we recommend hiking the Archduke’s Trail, eating pastries at Pastisseria Ca’n Molinas, and dining at Es Taller.

You’ll find a mix of beachside resorts (Paguera and Santa Ponsa), notorious party resorts (Magaluf and Palma Nova), charming seaside towns (Sant Elm and Port d’Andratx), and rural villages (Calvià, Galilea, Es Capdellà) in this area of Mallorca.
If you’re planning a Mallorca road trip, we recommend starting here and then continuing your journey to Valldemossa, Deià, and/or Sóller along the Ma-10 road.

Though only a short drive to the southwest coast and its many beach resorts, Calvià feels worlds away.
