Our hats are off to the folks at The Bold and the Beautiful because when they want to drop a surprise on us, they know how to completely blindside us — in the best way possible! While Eric’s illness has had us worried, we’ve also been hopeful that it would be our chance to see the much-missed Stephanie one more time. Surely, if something were to actually happen to Eric, she’d be the person to welcome him into the afterlife.

But while we were hopeful, we didn’t really expect it. After Stephanie’s heartbreaking death from cancer in November of 2012 (just over 11 years ago!), Since Susan Flannery bid her character farewell, the powerful Forrester matriarch hadn’t even been seen in dreams or as a ghostly visitor. So while the thought of Eric and Stephanie reuniting in heaven was lovely (whether or not he truly died), we didn’t hold our breaths.
Plus, the show hadn’t given us any indication that it was going to happen.
So consider us downright floored when, at the end of the Friday, December 15th episode Stephanie appeared to Eric and welcomed him into the light. And it was doubly a surprise since Finn and Bridget seemed to feel that they’d saved him in surgery!
“Eric,” Stephanie called. “Sweetheart? Hello. I’ve missed you so much. Eric, it’s going to be alright. It’s going to be OK. Everything’s going to be fine. Everyone’s been waiting for you.” She then welcomed him home and we weren’t sure whether to cry happy tears or sad ones.

Whether or not this really is the end of Eric, there’s no way the show can just leave it with those scenes on Friday! Fingers crossed we’ll be seeing more of him and Stephanie next week for some touching moments just before Christmas. And while we certainly hope this isn’t the end for Eric, we can’t think of a better way of going out than being reunited with his true love. (Sorry, Donna!)
