Who Is In The Dancing With The Stars Finale

One “Dancing with the Stars” couple will make history Dec. 5 as the recipients of the very first Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy during the show’s season 32 finale.

The competition’s coveted finale trophy was renamed this season in honor of the legendary head judge, who died in April at 78 years old.

Last week’s semifinals shocked viewers as no one was eliminated. All five couples moved on to the finale, vying for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy: actor Xochitl Gomez with partner Val Chmerkovskiy, actor Alyson Hannigan with partner Sasha Farber, “The Bachelorette” star Charity Lawson with partner Artem Chigvintsev, “Vanderpump Rules” star Ariana Madix with partner Pasha Pashkov and singer-songwriter Jason Mraz with partner Daniella Karagach.

The five couples will each perform a redemption dance and a freestyle routine, ABC announced.

Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the long-awaited finale episode.

‘DWTS’ Mirrorball Trophy named after late judge Len Goodman

Goodman, a professional ballroom dancer himself before transitioning to judging, made a profound impact on all those around him, executive producer Conrad Green told USA TODAY.

“The Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy will now be lifted on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ like the Vince Lombardi trophy is lifted at the Super Bowl,” Green said. “We wanted to make Len a permanent part of this show, to always remind people the importance he’s had to ‘Dancing With the Stars’ and how much he meant to all of us.”

Before being named head judge for “DWTS,” Goodman was the head judge on Britain’s “Strictly Come Dancing” for 12 years, starting with its BBC launch in 2004. He held the title of head “DWTS” judge for 31 seasons, retiring in 2022.

Former "Dancing with the Stars" head judge Len Goodman died in April at 78 years old.

Goodman’s pun-filled sense of humor delivered in his cockney accent endeared him to viewers, and his wisdom and expertise made him highly-respected by the ballroom contestants.

“Len always had a twinkle in his eye and a brilliant turn of phrase. He was very fair and knew what he was talking about,” says Green. “The respect he brought made the show stand on its own two feet. The dancers always wanted to know what Len thought of their performance.”

Earlier this season, the show’s professional dancers put together a touching tribute dance for Goodman, incorporating dancers of past and present whom he mentored.
