This article is not actor bashing or body shaming Amanda Setton but addressing an issue that viewers are discussing.

Amanda Setton: A topic of conversation

General Hospital fans have been discussing Brooke Lynn Quartermaine’s (Amanda Setton) wardrobe ever since she returned from maternity leave. BLQ wears loose jackets in every episode and some fans wondered if she were pregnant again and hiding a baby bump. Others have pointed out that her clothing is always dark lately and it is only natural that viewers take notice of their favorite characters. As BLQ the beautiful Setton lights up a room and her presence as well as her wardrobe cannot be ignored.

Some viewers assumed that Setton was having trouble losing her baby fat and was wearing loose clothing as she got back in shape because she was wearing the blazers in July when it was hot. Others thought that the wardrobe department chose the styles that Brooke Lynn was wearing and the actress had no choice in the matter.

General Hospital: BLQ and Chase

This past week there was an episode that caught the eyes of viewers and caused them to again wonder what is going on with BLQ when she and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) were trapped in a sauna where the temperatures get very high. Chase was in his towel and Brooke Lynn continued to wear her jacket the entire time. Fans did not expect her to strip to her underwear unless she and Chase were going to get busy in the steam room but could not help noticing that she did not even appear to break a sweat.

It would have been more realistic had she at least taken off the jacket and wiped some sweat from her forehead. Perhaps the writers thought this would not be noticed but any Port Charles character who was fully dressed in the steam room and wearing a blazer is going to draw attention.

Amanda Setton: Viewers want to know

Not every woman regains the figure she had prior to childbirth and there should be no shame attached to it. When you are a star of a daytime drama series it’s difficult to keep anything private. Sonya Edy who plays Epiphany Johnson has shared publically her struggles with keeping her weight down. Kirsten Storm who portrays Maxie Jones was ostracized by fans when she lost weight and was very thin and again when she gained pounds which she has not yet shed. It is unrealistic to expect every actress to look a certain way and probably difficult for soap stars to stand in front of the camera when they are battling weight gains and losses.

Brooke Lynn wears blazers with both pants and skirts and some fans say they did not like her donning a mini skirt with combat boots prior to Setton going on maternity leave. If the wardrobe department has total control then the actress is only putting on what they have given her for her character. Soap stars were doing their own hair and makeup and providing their own wardrobe during COVID but it’s not known if any of them are wearing their own clothing at this point.

While there are fans who have been cruel to the actresses on General Hospital, I have not read one article where anyone disrespected Setton. Viewers who spoke out seem genuinely curious about the clothing she wears. If the actress is trying to get her body in shape then it makes sense that she would not take off her blazer in the sauna. It was not a very good idea, however, for the writers to put her in such a situation where viewers would take notice and ask questions. Still, BLQ should have been sweating and peeling off her outer clothes to cool down in more ways than one.

This brings up the question of what will happen when Chase and BLQ become intimate? Will they only show them in bed with the covers up around their necks or will Swickard alone be seen by viewers in a state of undress? If Setton could not take off a jacket and be seen in the top she was wearing in the steam room then she probably will not tape scenes in her undergarments and that is her right. Again this is no judgment on the actress who should have the right to dress in the manner that makes her feel most comfortable.

Understandably some fans will say it does not matter what she has on and that all that should be addressed is that Sutton is a great actress. Even so, there will always be curious viewers who notice every detail, and BLQ pretending as if the steam room did not make her uncomfortable was an issue that simply was not going to be overlooked. Be that as it may Setton is beautiful and talented no matter what she is wearing.
