LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — A Flood Watch will continue through Monday as the first impacts of Hurricane Hilary arrive Saturday. Record and historic amounts of rain are forecasted around Southern Nevada.
STAY AWAY from washes and channels as they will likely be tested like never before. 6″ of floodwater will sweep a person away and 12″ of floodwater will move a car.

TODAY: Saturday is quickly becoming busy as the valley woke up to increasing cloud cover produced by the tip of Hurricane Hilary’s first spiral band. Expect an increasing chance of rain this afternoon into the evening. Rain will become more widespread in the evening and become possibly heavy overnight. Today’s high will be in the upper 80s. Winds should remain light aside from outflow gusts produced by thunderstorms.

TONIGHT: Expect waves of moderate to heavy rain to persist overnight as we drop to 72. Flash flooding will be the primary concern this evening and tonight. Winds should remain light aside from outflow gusts produced by thunderstorms.

HURRICANE HILARY: Waves of heavy rain will persist into Sunday. Sunday will be the highest-impact day of this storm—we can expect the peak of the rainfall to be followed by the peak of the winds. Winds will pick up Sunday evening and become strong but under advisory levels. Sunday’s high will be near 79; the record cool minimum is 78 (1957) and there is a chance we may tie or break it. Expect wind sustained 20-35 mph until Monday morning as the center of the storm passes. The chance for storms will slowly diminish on Monday morning and gradually diminish through the week. Rainfall totals during the 3-day period still stand at 1-2″ for the valley and up to 6″ for the valley.
Hurricane Hilary is now a category 3 storm with 125 mph winds. Hilary will weaken to a category 2 storm upon making landfall in northern Baja California early Monday morning. From there, Hilary will rapidly weaken to a tropical storm as it moves north across Southern California before fading out. The CENTER of the storm is expected to cross the border into California by Sunday afternoon and pass Las Vegas from the West late Sunday night.
