When Does 99.9 Kez Play Christmas Music

Looking for the latest information on when KEZ 99.9 FM will play Christmas music? Don’t miss the latest story.

You may have just brought in the soggy jack-o’-lantern from Halloween — well, heh, some of us, anyway — but it’s about to start sounding a lot like Christmas.

KEZ 99.9kicks off its annual nonstop wall of Christmas music with an event that begins at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, and culminates in Beth McDonald playing “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” the Andy Williams version. That’s how this begins every year — it’s tradition.

Cory McCloskey of Fox 10 is scheduled to assist, also a tradition. As a bonus, the 99th caller to the station after that song starts will win $2,500 cash.

For her part, McDonald, who is one of those all-year-around kinds of Christmas people, can’t wait.

“I’ve already gone Christmas crazy,” she said. And she doesn’t have to wait for the station — she’s already playing Christmas music at home.

KEZ isn’t the only radio station going all-in on the holidays. Sirius is too

If you think the beginning of November is early for decking-the-halls-type music, it’s actually on par with the starting date most years for the station. Last year, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the station played holiday songs for a three-day weekend in late March.

It’s a popular format. SiriusXM announced Wednesday that it was adding a couple of holiday channels this year, bringing its total to 19. They kick off at various times through the holiday season.

Why not? It’s been a strange year and a half.

“The last couple of years have given us all different perspective on things — work, family, our connection to others,” Paul Kelley, the station’s program director, said in a statement. “The Christmas music gives us connection to our past, to other people, and it also gives us hope for the future. Most of all, Christmas music just feels good!”
