Who Owns St Lucia Kings

The Caribbean Premier League franchise, the St Lucia Kings, has embarked on a partnership with the St Lucia Cricket High-Performance Center aimed at improving the quality of cricket on the island.

The franchise donated equipment to the St Lucia Cricket HPC and is also set to engage in a coaching exchange program between the franchises in St Lucia and India.

The St Lucia Kings are also expected to work with the grassroots program in St Lucia to further benefit cricket on the island.

The St Lucia Kings (previously the St Lucia Zouks) is owned by a consortium from India, with Bollywood star Preity Zinta among them.

Last Thursday, the Kings donated cricket equipment to the St Lucia High-Performance Center to assist with the strength and conditioning of players contracted to the Center.

The equipment included medicine balls, massage tables, stretch bands, cricket balls, pads, and wicket-keeping gear.

St Lucia Sports Minister Kenson Casimir said the initiative came about as a collaborative effort with St Lucia Kings head coach Daren Sammy, and Wayne Auguste, the president of the St Lucia National Cricket Association.

“This is because of the conversation and the meetings, the Zoom meetings with Daren and the Kings. You will not see the background, but we’ve had the meetings via Zoom. There’s a commitment towards putting St Lucia up on the map in an even bigger way,” Casimir stated.

Sammy, who is also the West Indies white-ball teams coach, told the players they should always be motivated when they turn up to train every day.

“You guys shouldn’t not be motivated to come out and stand up and do something you love every single day,” he said.

Sammy told the cricketers they have an opportunity to change and transform their lives in a significant way.

“That’s what you guys have, an opportunity to change the lives of your families, whatever the motive is, but coming in and putting in an honest day’s work and having the desire and the mental fortitude to go out and be the best,” he said.

Under the coaching exchange program, a coach from the St Lucia High-Performance Center will spend at least four weeks under-studying and working with the franchise coaching staff in India.

In addition, two India-based franchise coaches are expected to travel to St Lucia to work with the High-Performance cohort of players and staff.

On the grassroots cricket program in St Lucia, Sports Minister Casimir said the program will be positively impacted by the new nexus between the St Lucia Kings and the St Lucia HPC Center relationship.

“The Kings have gone a step further and are investing in the grassroots program for schools in St Lucia, and we’ll soon see a similar program, more in-depth, and elite program for the best of the best in our schools, being funded, being promoted, being assisted by the St Lucia Kings,” he said.
