Picklesburgh is a highly attended festival where people come to sample pickles, drink pickle beer and other pickle beverages and consume all sorts of pickle-friendly or pickled items. There are also two stages of entertainment and gift vendors.

About the Festival
Picklesburgh is put on by The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, a non-profit organization that puts on other Pittsburgh events, such as the Peoples Gas Holiday Market. Every year since the festival launched in 2016, the festival has been growing, eventually getting too congested for its old location on the Rachel Carson Bridge.
In 2023, the festival moved to Boulevard of the Allies between Stanwix St to Smithfield St, extending over three blocks and into PPG Plaza.
There is an entertainment stage at each end of the festival on Boulevard of the Allies with tall tables to eat and drink while enjoying the shows (I’ll add some entertainment clips at the end of the post).
In-between the stages along the entire three block festival area are mass amounts of people all searching for pickle sampling, strange pickle foods, pickle drinks, pickle snacks and more. Not only are there mass amounts of people, but there are dogs and there are strollers and pickle offerings that people area straining to read – and there’s plenty of pickle beer and drink that’s being consumed along the way.
In short, my best advice while attending the festival is to take things slow, be aware of your surroundings and drink responsibly.

Pickle Vendors
While Picklesburgh is more a food festival than anything else, there are gift vendors, most of which have an emphasis on pickles.
The Senator John Heinz History Center booth is a great place to stop…
…for both pickle and ketchup clothing and merch…
…plus there were temporary tattoos next door.
Other vendors sold pickle shirts, pickle home decor…
…and pickle bags to carry all the jars of pickles…

…that you could sample and purchase at the festival.
Pickle producers were scattered over the festival grounds, each offering free samples of all their pickle varieties with many jars ready for purchase.
It was often quite easy to recognize these vendors as they often had some of the longest lines.

Pickle Food
There is an incredible amount of pickle-friendly food offered at Picklesburgh…
…including pickle egg rolls and deep fried pickles on a stick…
…grilled cheese and pickle sandwiches and dill pickled pierogi…
…pickle sorbet and all types of pickle fudge…
…pickle candies and cotton candy…
…and some really delicious garlicky pickle pizza…
…which was great with some pickle beer.
While pickle beers could be found at easily recognizable stations…
…it was worth keeping an eye out for booths hosted by distilleries (Excise)…
…as they sometimes made their own pickle vodka…

…or even any of the bars who sold adult pickle beverage concoctions…
…although there were specific hours for cocktails.
If you didn’t want alcohol, there were still all sorts of pickle beverages, including soda…
…Pickle Palmers, Strawberry Dill Lemonade and more.

Summary
Even with all the people who attend Picklesburgh, there will still plenty of pickles to go around…
…granted, some pickle opportunities may slip your grasp…
…but, if you just take in the sights…
…try to meet new people…
…and go with the flow…
…you’ll have a great time.
