I still don’t like the name of the show! I go as far as to say that I hate it. Putting “Pretty Little Liars” in the name is so forced. It’s so clearly a cash grab. Having “Pretty Little Liars” in the name is free marketing. If people miss the promos, they wouldn’t know that “The Perfectionists” is a PLL-spinoff. So, when they see “Pretty Little Liars The Perfectionists” on their schedule on TV, they’ll know to watch it, not because they saw any promos and they knew beforehand that it’s a PLL continuation, but because they just learnt on the spot via their TV’s weekly schedule that it’s a PLL continuation. It is entirely free marketing. Just hearing the name gets half the job done.
I also hate it, because getting a bit linguistically technical, you can’t put two noun phrases next to each other like that: “Pretty Little Liars” “The Perfectionists”. It’s literally just like saying “The dog the cat”. Or “The table chair.” You know it’s forced when it’s gramatically incorrect.

It also has no flow and is far too long. Pretty Little Liars was obviously abbreviated to PLL… that was great. Are we really gonna be saying PLLTP? No flow, too long. Now I’m getting REALLY technical, but if we only have 5 letters in that abbreviation, one of the 5 should not be the word ‘the’. Then it’s basically only one new letter, from PLL. “PLLTP” is essentially just “PLL” and throwing a P on the end. It’s just boring.
A tiny improvement would be “PLL: The Perfectionists”. Don’t actually spell out PLL, and put the semicolon, symbolising that this is a PLL story. Just like they did Star Wars: The Force Awakens. (They don’t have to shorten Star Wars to SW, because Star Wars is a good length.) Without the semicolon, two noun phrases look stupid next to each other like that, and without being OFFICIALLY abbreviated to PLL, it’s far too long. Again, that’s a tiny improvement. I have a better idea, which I’ll get to later.
Everyone will soon start calling it “The Perfectionists”. Come season 3, “Pretty Little Liars” will be dropped from the name, not officially by the network, but by fans. Do you reeeeeaallly think people will be saying “oh my god did you see the finale for Pretty Little Liars The Perfectionists!!?” It’s way too long in casual speak. “Pretty Little Liars” WILL be dropped, unofficially, by fans. And that’s not good for the network: when fans start calling it something that it’s not, the network’s cash-grab motives only stick out even more to the public.

I still stand by my unpopular opinion that “Pretty Little Perfectionists” is a totally perfect name. 2010 to 2017 we were dealing with Liars, and now 2019 – 2025 (?) we are dealing with Perfectionists. Having “Pretty Little” continues the original tradition, heck put it in the same PLL font too to really exaggerate the tradition, and then just add Perfectionists, based on the book’s name. We could’ve called this PLP. There was PLL and now PLP. It would take some getting used to, but I can totally picture people saying “omg did you see the PLP finale?” Besides, if you hear the name “Pretty Little Perfectionists”, you would still think of it being a Pretty Little Liars show. Seriously, no other show has “Pretty Little” in it. It is unofficially trademarked. “Pretty Little Perfectionists” still gets the free marketing done, in a much more short, consice, rhythmic and memorable way.
I’m gonna go as far as to say that I hate the name. I hate “Pretty Little Liars The Perfectionists”. It’s grammatically incorrect, forced and too long. We are only in the pilot stage, it’s not too late to change it!
(I can’t believe I actually feel the need to say this, but I know people will call me negative… but I’m INCREDIBLY excited for the actual show!!! I cannot wait. I think it’s gonna be great. The name of the show has nothing to do with the quality of the actual show…)
