Earlier in November, Harrisonburg and James Madison University were all abuzz thanks to ESPN College GameDay.
One local restaurant got a special surge of excitement that weekend courtesy of the show’s musical guest — the Jonas Brothers.

“We’re at Billy Jack’s, and we’re gonna say hi to some fans, open some beers — college life,” said Joe Jonas in a video on social media.
The beloved band of brothers stopped by Billy Jack’s, a bar and restaurant in downtown Harrisonburg the Friday before College GameDay serving drinks, bumping fists and creating a memorable night for everyone involved.
The band’s cameo was a mix of planning and spontaneity, said Pat Williamson, the general manager of Billy Jacks. The management team has contacts at JMU, and those involved with GameDay reached out after the Jonas Brothers were looking for a place to get dinner, hang out and possibly do a quick bartending session.
“We were super excited to host them,” Williamson said.

After a catered dinner for the brothers at Jack’s Hideaway, the speakeasy bar above Billy Jack’s, the band made their way down to the bar with the lights low and “We Are The Champions” playing in the background.
“It was kind of a madhouse at Billy Jack’s once word got out that they might be popping in,” Williamson said. “As soon as they walked in, everyone was just cheering their heads off … Once they came downstairs, it was pretty electric. Everyone had their flashlight on, there were people standing on tables — everyone just wanted to see them bar tend.”
Sabrina Herron, a Harrisonburg local, said she wasn’t planning on going out that night, but after multiple calls from a friend who heard that the Jonas Brothers might be at the bar, she knew she had to go.
“I put on my makeup real quick and ran out the door because I knew this was like a once-in-a-lifetime sort of thing,” Herron said.
Herron grew up listening to the band, and once they came back on the scene with their 2019 Happiness Begins album, she became a fan once again. At Billy Jack’s, Herron ended up getting a chance to toast with Joe after Nick Jonas gave her a drink.
“I was very overwhelmed. I was starstruck for sure. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh let me try not to embarrass myself,” Herron said. “I was probably like three feet away from them. So it was that was just really exciting. It was a really good time. The crowd was really fun, and then [the Jonas Brothers] bought everybody drinks there, which was really nice.”

While the visit didn’t impact the amount of money Billy Jack’s made, Williamson said they received a lot of social media attention and had about 200 people lined up outside the building waiting for the Jonas Brothers to come out of the bar.
On X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, reactions ranged from awe from seeing the popular band at a local bar to upset due to missing out on the event.
“Jo bros at the bar where I celebrated by 22nds birthday, cannot deal,” X user @kellzvb said.
“Jonas Brothers behind the bar slinging drinks at Billy Jacks is pretty peak Harrisonburg at the moment,” JMU Sports Blog posted.
Williamson said even his family reached out when they heard the news.
“We didn’t see a huge uptick in sales,”Williamson said. “But the amount of social media likes and views that we’ve gotten has been way, way beyond anything that we were expecting.”
