Maria Stephanos is an American journalist, anchor, and reporter, currently serving as a co-anchor of WCVB NewsCenter 5 at 6:00, 7:00, and 11:00 PM with Ed Harding and Chief Meteorologist Harvey Leonard. Stephanos also anchors NewsCenter 5 at 4:30 PM and The 10 O’Clock News on MeTV Boston with co-anchor Ben Simmoneau. She also served as a news anchor and reporter for Boston’s WFXT-TV.
Stephanos received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from Umass Amherst College. She also has a master’s degree in mass communication from Emerson College.

Stephanos is a well-known local journalist with more than a quarter-century of experience as an anchor and reporter in New England, co-anchor of NewsCenter 5 at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. with Ed Harding and Chief Meteorologist Harvey Leonard. She began her vocation as a Statehouse reporter working for a few nearby stations that included WBUR in Boston. She has reported on a few NPR news shows and WCBS Radio and WABC Radio in New York.
Through her known vocation, Maria has covered many of the most important news incidents, including the John F. Kennedy Jr. plane crash, the Worcester Cold Storage disaster, the Florida Presidential recount vote live, the Boston and Washington D.C. 9/11 attacks, Red Sox World wins, the Patriots’ Super Bowl wins, the death of Senator Ed. She also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alpha Omega Society, presented by former Commonwealth Governor Michael Dukakis.

Dale Stephanos told the Track that Maria, who ran five miles this morning before her shift, called him from her car on the way to the Dedham studio and told him she was “disoriented, nauseous, and she felt like she was going to pass out.” He also said she told him she “couldn’t feel her hands.”
“She couldn’t pull over because of all the construction but she finally made it to FOX, she dropped and they called 911,” said Stephanos, who got to the station and rode with his wife to a local hospital.
“They got an IV into her pretty quickly and she sprung right back to life,” said the illustrator, joking that his bride “successfully weaseled her way into a day off.”
Dale said Maria, who is being released shortly, was “feeling hungry” when he left the hospital to grab his bride’s purse from the station. “That’s sort of the default setting for any Greek mother,” laughed Stephanos.
