Why Isn’t Valerie Bertinelli On Halloween Baking Championship

Longtime Kids Baking Championship host Valerie Bertinelli recently broke the upsetting news that she will no longer be on the Food Network favorite due to “budget cuts.”

Over the weekend, Bertinelli shared a video on Instagram, where she said she’d been “avoiding facing” the news she received the night before because it “really hurt [her] feelings,” per The Daily Mail.

“And I know it’s not supposed to, logically,” she clarified. “I know that it’s business. Budget cuts, right? But it really hurt my feelings to know that I’m not gonna be asked back to be on Kids Baking Championship. It really sucks.”

The news arrives nine months after the cancelation of Bertinelli’s Valerie’s Home Cooking, per TODAY.com. Decider has reached out to Food Network for comment, but did not hear back by time of publication.

According to TVLine, Bertinelli also took to Threads, where she wrote that she has “zero ill will toward anyone at FN (Food Network)” and “understand[s] business is business.”

Nonetheless, Bertinelli — who has co-hosted the show with fellow Food Network icon Duff Goldman since 2015 — explained on Instagram that the episodes currently airing were “shot back in the summer of 2022,” a time she deemed her “apex year of hell.” That same year, she and her ex Tom Vitale got divorced, per People.

“Like, I was going through it and pretending everything was just fine,” she shared. “Cause that’s what you do. And without sounding like a drama queen, the show saved my life.”

Likening the show to “a flotation device,” Bertinelli added, “I’m just most sad that I won’t be able to tell everybody what they mean to me,” before shouting out the various teams and “people [that] work so hard to give you an amazing show.”

She also issued a shoutout to not only “all of those kid bakers that [she] got to watch grow up,” but also the incoming contestants, promising that she’ll “be with [them] in spirit.”

“And I just want you to remember this,” she said. “You are there for a reason. You’re some of the best bakers in America right now. And if you don’t make it to the next round, please always remember this: It’s not because you’re not a good baker. You just had a bad day. So always, always believe in yourself. Please do that for me. And keep baking. I’ll miss you guys.”
