Why Is My Tcl Tv Not Turning On

TCL has been consistently making good TVs and smart TVs for a few years now, and last year after one of my colleagues suggested I check out a particular model and decided to pick it up for my TV lounge

I was thoroughly enjoying the features on my smart TV and was very much a happy customer.

However, a few months in and one day while sitting down to play some video games, my TCL TV refused to turn on.

After frantically checking my TV and all its cables, the remote and powerboard, I ended up contacting TCL’s support to rectify my issue.

Turns out that I had a motherboard issue, but from the fixes the customer care agent suggested, I figured there are multiple reasons why TCL’s TV didn’t power on.

TCL TV not turning on can be the result of hardware failure, but it could also be something simple like damaged cables or dead batteries on the remote.

In this article, I have discussed in detail various issues including methods to fix them such as cleaning out your TV’s ports or performing a hardware reset for your system.

Check your TCL TV’s Status Light

If your TCL TV isn’t powering on, check the status light at the bottom in front.

The status light should be a solid white if the TV is powered off or in standby mode.

If the TV is on, the light will not be visible, but it will blink when input is given on the remote.

If there is no response from the TV in either situation, then move ahead to the next steps to figure out what can be done.

Turn Off and Back On Your TCL TV Using the Power Button

If your TV isn’t turning on with the remote, try checking the physical power button on the device.

It’s usually located at the back or behind the TV.

Turn off the TV using the power button and turn it back on. In some cases, your TV should turn on after this, but if it doesn’t then move on to the next step.

Try Another Power Outlet

Sometimes it may not be an issue with the TV or cables, but with the power outlet itself.

Unplug the TV’s power cable and try connecting another device to see if it turns on. If your device doesn’t turn on, you might have a dead power outlet.

Switch your outlet and your device should function as usual again.

Inspect your Cables for Fraying

Another cause for devices not powering on is frayed cables.

Over time, due to various stresses, cables can fray or break internally. If your device isn’t powering on, check every cable you have for external fraying or damage to the ports.

If you suspect the damage is internal, check with your local hardware store and they will be able to check the internal damage using specialized equipment.

Replace the Batteries in your TCL TV Remote

This is the most obvious solution, but sometimes it tends to slip our minds.

If your TV isn’t responding to the remote, then check to see if your batteries still have power in them.

Additionally, while changing batteries, always make sure to use high-quality and high-capacity batteries to prevent battery leaks and keep your remote running longer.

Clean the Dust Out Of Your TCL TV

Dust and dirt can cause a world of issues for electronics.

Since electronics have very sensitive connectors to transfer power and data, accumulated dust can prevent your cables from transmitting properly.

Use a cleaning kit for electronics or a small brush to clean out all the dust on your TV.

Be careful and slowly clean ports and power points because excess force can damage the connectors beyond repair.

Hardware Reset your TCL TV

A last-ditch attempt would be to reset your TCL TV.

To reset your TCL TV:

  • Press the ‘Settings’ button on your TV remote.
  • Navigate to ‘More Settings’ and select ‘Device Preferences
  • Click on Reset > Factory Data Reset > Erase Everything.

It will delete any stored data and restore the system to its default settings.

Once the reset process is completed, you should be able to initialize and set up your TV.

You can also use a paperclip or sim removal tool to press the reset button on the TV’s connector panel for 12 seconds to reset your TV.

Contact Support

If none of the above methods worked, you can contact TCL support and brief them about your issue.

They should be able to send a technician to check out your device and troubleshoot any issues you might have.

Replace your TCL TV

If your device is still under warranty, the best option would be to contact customer support and have them replace your TCL TV.

However, if your TV isn’t under warranty and it cannot be rectified, then it might be best to look at newer options that are available on the market.

With the rapid increase in TV tech, getting a budget smart TV with a lot of features is pretty easy nowadays. Just keep your eyes out for an online or store sale to get the best deals.

Conclusion

In conclusion, if your TCL TV isn’t turning on, it can be due to a variety of reasons.

However, most of them are simple fixes and can be rectified yourself. On the off-chance that something more serious has happened, you can always contact your local hardware store or TCL support.

Additionally, when purchasing cables for your TV, always make sure to buy high-quality cables as they are less susceptible to fraying and damage, and will last much longer.

It might also be handy to check if your residence has any voltage fluctuations that might cause devices to malfunction over time.
