SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A winter storm impacted much of South Dakota on Christmas Day and continued to impact travelers on Tuesday.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation has announced both lanes of Interstate 90 from Mitchell to Rapid City reopened at 10 a.m. Tuesday. That came after the DOT announced closures of Interstate 90 from Wall to Mitchell starting at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

No Travel Advisories remain in place on some highways across the state.
While I-90 has reopened, travelers are advised that the combination of heavy snow and strong winds are causing snow-packed and ice-covered roads along with blizzard-like conditions.
The DOT said travelers should not use secondary highways to avoid Interstate closures.
In northeastern South Dakota, the South Dakota Highway Patrol said shared a photo near Summit where visibility was reduced because of fog. Authorities said drivers should use their lights, slow down and increase following distances.

In Brookings County, downed trees and galloping power lines have been reported which may have caused power outages, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
In northwestern Iowa, the Dickinson County Emergency Management social media account shared a photo of a downed power line due to ice accumulation.

How much snow to expect depends on where you live.
According to early snow reports, areas vary from 9 inches in Stickney, 9.5 inches in areas of Mellette County, more than 6 inches in Pierre, 8 inches in Wessington, 6.3 inches in Huron, 6 inches in Vermillion, 5 inches in Mitchell, 2 inches in Montrose and 2 inches in Aberdeen.

The heaviest snow will come to south-central and portions of southeastern KELOLAND. That is the area of KELOLAND under the Blizzard Warning.

Many roads across South Dakota are wet and slippery. No roads are closed currently. To monitor road conditions, you can look a the South Dakota 511 website.
The South Dakota 511 also has cameras along the roadways. Below are some pictures taken today.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol has also been responding to crashes. Posts on their Facebook warn people to drive safely if they need to drive at all.
The road report as of 7 am Tuesday continues to show no travel advisories north of Rapid City due to the snow and heavy wind. As highlighted in yellow on the map below, we also have no travel advisories from Pierre southward toward the Nebraska border.
