As a general rule of thumb, you’re going to want to dress in comfortable clothing for your escape room adventure.
Many escape rooms require you to reach, climb, and squeeze through mild obstacles to find your clues for escape. Because the majority of your time in an escape room will be spent standing and walking, comfort is key. Here are a few items to pull from your closet before heading out:
1. Comfortable, close-toed shoes. Aim for a shoe with a sturdy sole so that you stay comfortable as you move through each room. Shoes leaning toward the sneaker variety are usually best.
2. Non-restricting pants or shorts. Choose a pair of pants or shorts that jive well with activity. You don’t want something too tight or constricting, but you won’t want to wear anything too large or baggy, either. Athletic shorts or a comfy pair of jeans are a great option.

3. A breathable t-shirt or sweater. Your escape room will have air conditioning, but you’ll want to wear something breathable and loose as you will be moving around for an hour. A loose-fitting t-shirt, light sweater or long-sleeve tee that breathes well are good options.
What NOT to Wear to an Escape Room
Wearing uncomfortable or constricting clothes (that don’t allow for easy movement) will keep you from fully enjoying yourself, and should be avoided. Here are a few tips on what NOT to wear:
1. Short dresses or overly tight clothing. These clothes will prevent you from ducking into corners, climbing up steps, and crawling through tunnels. They can ultimately keep you from the whole point of your adventure – escaping!
2. Heeled and open-toed shoes. Leave the sandals and high heels at home (or in the car). While you won’t be running, you will be consistently walking. Wearing shoes that allow you to maneuver through each room without getting toes stepped on is key.
3. Jewelry and Accessories. Simple rings and accessories that will stay firmly on are acceptable, but anything that jangles and risks falling off should be avoided. For members of your family that have longer hair, we suggest putting it up in a ponytail so it doesn’t get caught on anything.

1. If you’re an athlete or an active person whose closet is mostly filled with running shorts, thin windbreakers, and compression pants, then you have clothing that allows you to zip through the escape room to victory.
2. If most of the clothes you own are a bit more professional, look for clothing you might wear if you were cleaning your house – nothing too athletic but something you’re going to be comfortable moving around in. In that case, grabbing a breathable t-shirt and some khaki shorts or a stretchy pair of pants and a thin long sleeve will do just fine.
3. If you really want to bring the family together (and forever traumatize the pre-teen in your life), have your family dress in costume! Escape rooms allow costumes if you want to take your dedication to the next level. Just make sure they align with the dress code guidelines.
