Update, June 23: Seabreeze Amusement Park representatives have announced that in keeping with New York state and CDC guidelines, beginning June 24, the park will return to full-capacity operations and regular hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily through Labor Day, Sept. 6. In addition, people no longer will have to buy tickets in advance; they’ll be sold at the gate and online. Guests who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 are asked to wear face masks, but no one will be asked to prove vaccination status.

Original story, May 3: Irondequoit’s Seabreeze Amusement Park has made it official: It will open for the 2021 season on May 22.

Owners confirmed the date over the weekend on the park’s Facebook page.

Last year, for the first time in its history, Seabreeze, in existence since 1879, could not open because of the coronavirus pandemic.

In February, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that starting April 9, outdoor amusement parks would be able to open if they limited capacity to 33% and followed other pandemic-related safety protocols.

On its website, Seabreeze, located at 4600 Culver Road, wrote that it would abide by those measures as well as regulations established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

They include:

• Health and temperature checks at the gate.
• Wearing masks. Children 2 and younger won’t be required to do so, nor are people who can’t tolerate face masks for health reasons. People can remove them when eating or drinking while seated. And masks will not be allowed to be worn on water attractions.
• Practicing social distancing. The park has added markers to remind people to stay 6 feet apart. In addition, park benches, tables and chairs have been spaced out, and some ride vehicles have been blocked off.
• Keeping hands clean. The park has installed more than 60 hand-sanitation stations.

Also, to minimize contact between park guests and workers, wristbands have been eliminated. All tickets must be bought in advance at seabreeze.com — none will be sold at the park. Tickets are date-specific and can be reserved two weeks in advance.

This summer, no Spectator or Night Rider passes will be available, and Free Senior Citizens Mondays have been suspended.

The Cirque enVol acrobats will not perform this summer because of state regulations limit the park’s ability to seat at audience at the Center Stage.

Seabreeze noted that because the state is continually updating its guidance, safety protocols are subject to change.
