Where To Watch Phantom Of The Opera Free

Broadway’s longest-running show, The Phantom of the Opera, which took its final Broadway bow at The Majestic Theatre earlier this April, has now been released for free streaming by Universal Studios.

Thanks to Universal’s “The Show Must Go On!” initiative, the musical is now available for free streaming in select regions. The studio did not announce a take-down date for the online stream.

In 2011, Cameron Mackintosh produced a spectacular rendition that is still hailed as one of the best-captured stage musicals of recent years. Ramin Karmiloo (Funny Girl) and Sierra Boggess (*The Little Mermaid*) starred in the filmed production after originating the roles of Phantom and Christine in Love Never Dies, earning critical acclaim.

The live capture was initially released in 2011 and later made available on DVD and Blu-ray through Universal Studios. Watch the full show below:

This release adds to the collection of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musicals that have been filmed over the years, providing global audiences with a front-row seat to classics such as Cats, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Love Never Dies, Jesus Christ Superstar, and more.

The Phantom of the Opera, based on Gaston Leroux’s classic novel Le Fantôme de L’Opéra, boasts music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart with additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, and a book by Richard Stilgoe and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The production design is credited to the late Maria Björnson, with lighting by Andrew Bridge and sound by Mick Potter.

During its Broadway run, Phantom shattered every possible record for advance sales, including capitalization, total gross, total attendance, and longevity. It claimed the title of the longest-running show in Broadway history on January 9, 2006, surpassing the nearly 18-year run of Cats, another Andrew Lloyd Webber musical.

With a staggering gross of $1.3 billion, Phantom stands as the largest single generator of income and jobs in Broadway and U.S. theatrical history. In the New York production alone, an estimated 6,500 people, including 450 actors, have been employed during its more than three decades run.

This free streaming release by Universal Studios not only allows fans to relive the magic of The Phantom of the Opera but also introduces this legendary production to a new generation of global audiences.
