Why Has My Discord Account Been Disabled

Discord is one of the most commonly used messaging platforms for gamers and has been becoming increasingly popular.

This platform isn’t just used by gamers.

It is also becoming a crucial part of having an online presence, such as streaming or making online content.

Having your Discord account disabled can be a royal pain in the backside, but it typically doesn’t happen unless warranted.

While it may not be unheard of to have your account banned from a single server, it is not normal to have your entire account disabled.

However, there are other ways to have your account disabled.

One of the reasons that your account may have been disabled is if you went against the terms of service.

This is the most common reason that accounts get disabled.

Your account may be disabled if you repeatedly post things that are deemed “objectionable” by Discord’s community guidelines.

Bullying, making false complaints, stealing passwords, spreading viruses, and sharing cheating software will also get your account disabled.

Discord’s guidelines and terms paint an extremely clear picture of what is acceptable and what is unacceptable.

Your whole server can be removed if you are promoting dangerous or illegal behavior, along with the potential of Discord alerting your local law enforcement.

It is understandable that Discord would disable, ban, and destroy accounts that are using their platform to do these terrible things.

Not all of the reasons that your account could have been disabled are based on negative things you might have done.

You can also have your account disabled if you have entered the wrong email identification or password too many times.

This isn’t a way to punish the user for not knowing their log-in information, but rather a way to keep your account safe from hackers.

Occasionally, there will be a mishap in Discord’s algorithm that will disable your account for no apparent reason.

Luckily, there are solutions for whatever reason your account becomes disabled.

Step 1: Figure Out Why You Were Disabled

Discord isn’t just going to disable your account without any rhyme or reason unless there has been a malfunction with Discord’s algorithm.

You will receive a message from Discord if you are unable to log in.

A failed login will result in a message from Discord appearing on your screen, which will say “Your Account Has Been Disabled”.

For further information on the reasoning behind your account being disabled, you will need to look in your email inbox.

Check the email attached to your Discord account and look for an email directly from Discord.

This message will specify the reason or reasons that you are being disabled.

The email will also let you know how long your account is going to be disabled.

For example, someone who has their account disabled because they were unable to log in properly isn’t going to have their account disabled for as long as someone who was spamming or harassing people.

There are worse offenses that can get an account disabled permanently or even completely removed.

Identifying the reason for your account being disabled will also help you prevent any similar actions from happening in the future.

Most of Discord’s rules revolve around you not using Discord to do anything that is cheating, illegal, or harmful.

You will also be able to spot if someone has been making false reports against you by reading the reasoning behind your ban.

Making false reports against another account goes against the terms of service and community guidelines, so it should be reported immediately.

Step 2: Contact Discord

Getting in contact with Discord is the only way you are going to get your account re-established.

Discord will only restore accounts that have been wrongfully disabled, mainly due to algorithm mistakes and login safety precautions.

Discord is not going to restore your account if they believe you have been rightfully punished.

If your account was disabled for knowingly going against community guidelines, they will not restore your account.

However, Discord does not want to punish users who have done nothing wrong.

That’s why they have the “Help & Support” page.

You will need to make sure that you are submitting the right type of request.

When you are taken to the “Help & Support”, there will be a dropdown menu that will ask what kind of request you are making.

Choose “Trust & Safety”, which will then take you to the form you will need to fill out.

First, you will need to enter the email that your Discord account is attached to.

Underneath where you put your email, you will find another dropdown menu.

You will want to choose the final option, “Appeals, age update, other questions”.

This will cause another dropdown menu to appear.

In this menu, choose “Appeal an action taken on my account or bot”.

Beneath this menu is another menu in which you will need to choose “An action taken on my account”.

To continue, you will need to confirm that your account was taken down for the user being too young, that you have read the terms of service and community guidelines, and that you have entered the email that is attached to your disabled account.

If your phone number is attached to your account, you may want to enter that as well.

You will then be able to make your request.

Step 3: Writing Your Request

In the subject line, you will want it to say something along the lines of “My Account was Disabled”.

Keep your subject short and to the point.

You will have the entire description to go into more detail about what has happened.

You are going to need to describe the problem that caused your account to be disabled.

For example, if your account was disabled due to your inability to remember your login information, let Discord know.

You can let Discord know that it was actually you who was trying to get into your account and that you simply mistyped or mixed up your login information.

In this situation, Discord just wants to know that your account wasn’t getting hacked.

Those who have had their accounts disabled due to miscalculation by Discord’s algorithm will want to explain that they didn’t do what the algorithm is accusing them of doing.

The most professional way to describe this situation would be to start by explaining that you read over the email that discussed the reason your account was disabled, but you haven’t done what the email has said you had done.

For those who have actually done what Discord is accusing them of doing, you are going to have a much more difficult time getting your account back before the waiting period ends.

You are going to have to apologize and make it clear to Discord that you understand the consequences of your actions.

The best apology message for Discord is one that uses its own words.

For example, if you were banned for spamming, you can quote the parts of the guidelines and terms of service that state that spamming is against the rules.

Follow that up by an acknowledgment of the effect of your actions and promise to do better.

Step 4: Hearing Back From Discord

After your request is submitted, you should expect about a week’s wait before hearing back from Discord.

You will hear from them through your email, so make sure to check it regularly.

If you haven’t heard back from Discord after five to seven business days, then check your spam folder.

For accounts that have been disabled by accident, Discord will apologize to you and your account will be back up shortly before you receive the email.

The same applies if your account has been disabled for login issues.

Those who have gone against the terms of service and community guidelines will need to reply to Discord’s response email before they will have their accounts reinstated.

In Discord’s email, they will discuss what you have done wrong and will remind you not to make the same mistake again.

To ensure that you have read through the community guidelines, terms of service, and Discord’s response email, you will need to reply and promise that you will not make the same mistake again.

You will also need to promise to not break any other rules as well.

Discord keeps a close eye on its users’ track records.

Constant rule breakers will not be shown the same leniency as a first-time offender.

This is especially true if the same rule is broken multiple times.

Committing the same offense multiple times can do much worse than just disabling your account.

You can have your entire account deleted and end up getting completely banned by the platform.

Although there are ways around these actions, the workarounds are also against the rules and can be easily spotted by Discord.

Being respectful of the platform and its users is the best way to avoid having to go through the hassle of restoring a disabled account.

Disabling Your Own Account

Typically, Discord users try to avoid having their accounts disabled, but some users will disable their accounts to give themselves a break, peace of mind, or because they don’t want other people interacting with their account.

To disable your own account, go to your settings and choose “My Account” from the left side of the screen.

At the bottom of the screen, you will see the options to disable your account or remove your account in red.

Make sure that you have chosen to disable your account rather than delete it.

You can easily reinstate your account if it is disabled, but deleting your account is permanent and irreversible.

While your account is disabled, you will not receive any notifications.

People will still be able to send you friend requests, which will wait for you until you open your account again.

Disabling your account allows you to step away from Discord if you need to.

You will be able to restore your account afterward, as long as you never choose to delete it.

The process of restoring an account that a user has disabled is much simpler and faster than attempting to restore an account that Discord has disabled.

You don’t even need to leave the app to do so.

Restoring Your Self-Disabled Account

When you open the Discord application after disabling your account, you will need to log in with the proper email and password.

It is important to make sure that you are logging in with the right email and password, so Discord doesn’t also disable your account.

Once you have logged in, you will be met with a message that states that your account is scheduled for deletion.

If you want to delete your account, then you would choose the periwinkle button that says, “I am sure!”.

To avoid deleting your account, you will want to tap the option in white below that says, “Restore Account”.

Make sure that you make your decision to restore your account within 14 days or less because, otherwise, your account will be deleted.

In the warning message about your account being deleted soon, they weren’t kidding.

Those who do not restore their accounts within 14 days will lose their accounts forever.

This is even true for those who have Discord Nitro.

Messaging Discord Through Social Media

Even with a company as large as Discord, some consumer appeals can still slip through the cracks.

In these situations, you may want to contact Discord through another means.

You should wait at least a week before jumping to this method of contact, but it is sometimes necessary.

Discord has Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, and Twitter pages.

On Instagram, Twitter, and Reddit, you can send them a direct message.

On Facebook, you are going to need to message them through the Messenger app.

Your message should be the same, depending on whatever platform you decide to utilize.

If you are considering messaging them on multiple platforms, you will want to wait a few days before choosing another platform.

You should also only ask on another platform if you have not gotten any response from the first platform.

In your message, you will want to include your email connected to Discord, your disabled account’s username, and when you discovered that your account was disabled.

If you have any support ticket IDs, then you will want to share those as well.

There is no point in messaging the social media pages if you have already gotten a response from Discord’s support team.

Going to another employee of the company isn’t going to change the company’s decision.

You should reserve messaging Discord through other social media platforms as a last resort for your problem not being heard.

The employees running the social media pages aren’t going to solve any problems for you.

At best, they are going to try to ensure that your complaint has gone through and that someone from the support team helps you shortly.

At worst, the social media page curators are simply going to direct you to the Discord support website.
