Potato chips and sandwiches go together like burgers and fries so it is no surprise that you can find Panera Bread Potato chips offered as a “side” to your sandwich at this tasty chain. But separated from the side and brought into the limelight, are they worth grabbing take-away without the full meal?
We once gave a restaurant chip our highest grade (see Cafe Nero Sea Salt and Vinegar) so we never assume that just because it is not the primary product at a particular place, restaurant chips may stand on their own.

The premium bag they came in features someone holding potatos, giving them a natural, “down home” feel. They also have 0 cholesterol, trans fat, or preservatives which means they are “better” for you then some other chips and you should make sure you check the expiration date if you buy them!
Although it doesn’t say it on the bag, we could tell by their texture and strong crunch that they were kettle cooked chips. The bag also said they are manufactured specially for the company but we had no indication as to which manufacturer made them, though they are made in St. Louis.

The bag promises they are “honestly delicious and we agree” that they are tasty. Being a plain chip it is hard to make them stand out and although they aren’t particularly salty or greasy, which is a rarity for chips of this type, I’m not sure I would go out and grab a bag of these over other tasty kettle cooked chips. I really like Panera Bread sandwiches and of course love chips and just felt overall that just like it is hard to have a sandwich without the chips, the reverse was true for these.
One of the downsides of these chips is that they are sold as a premium on their own but I don’t think I would categorize them as such, especially since they come in such a small bag. If you are enjoying Panera and want a good side, Panera Bread Chips will definitely do the trick but they are on the fine border between average and boring.
