Where Was A Royal Christmas Crush Filmed

There are two types of people in the world: those who prefer the heat and those who love the cold. Hallmark’s monthlong Christmas in July event is a very merry mix of the two, offering movies about winter’s biggest holiday during the hottest time of the year. The first brand new offering, A Royal Christmas Crush, is even set in quite possibly the coldest location we’ve ever seen in a Hallmark holiday movie: I’m talking about a hotel completely made of ice!

In the movie, the royal family of a fictional Nordic country always spend the holidays nestled in a temporary ice hotel. This year, the designer of the hotel needs help from his architect niece Ava (played by Katie Cassidy). This ends up being way more than just a normal gig, though, because this is where Ava meets and totally charms Prince Henry (Stephen Huszar). You’ll just have to guess how things unfold from there!

So, what’s the deal with this ice hotel? Did Hallmark seriously build an entire ice hotel just for one Christmas movie? Or is this a place you can visit or even stay at? Here’s everything you need to know about the ice hotel in A Royal Christmas Crush.

Where was A Royal Christmas Crush filmed? Where is the ice hotel?

The hotel is really the Hôtel de Glace and it’s located in Canada, specifically in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, Quebec. Unlike in the movie, the ice hotel is actually a permanent structure that’s open from January to March every year.

The Hôtel de Glace is the only ice hotel in North America and yes, it is really made from ice and snow. That’s why it’s only open for a few weeks in winter. The hotel has plenty of sites to see, including many that are seen in A Royal Christmas Crush. That includes the ice slide, as well as a chapel, sauna, and Grand Hall.

If you wish to stay the night at the ice hotel, that’ll cost you around $300 USD for the night. There are 30 rooms in the hotel, including a number of suites and theme rooms with elaborate snow sculptures. The hotel’s website has tips on what to bring and what to wear, including how you should layer up in order to sleep comfortably. Every guest is even required to take a training session!

The hotel isn’t just for those who want to actually get a room and sleep on an ice bed. If you think you can’t handle that much chill, the hotel is open to tours. Adjusted from Canadian dollars to US dollars, passes to tour the hotel cost between $15 to $25 and actually depend on your height. If you can’t make it to Quebec any time soon, or if you can’t wait until the hotel reopens in January, you can always take a 3D tour online.

You can also see the hotel in A Royal Christmas Crush, which airs on Hallmark on July 8 at 8 p.m. ET — and again on Sunday, July 9 at 4 p.m. ET.
