Where To Watch Brentford F.c. Vs Burnley F.c.

Brentford bounced back in a big way on Saturday, as they beat Burnley 3-0 at Gtech Community Stadium to pick up just their second win of the Premier League season, and their first since Aug. 19 (matchweek 2).

Thomas Frank’s side managed three points from those ensuing six games, but the Bees had managed to score multiple goals in a league game just once, against winless Bournemouth on Sept. 2 (matchweek 4).

After Neal Maupay had his would-be opener ruled out for offside in the 8th minute, Brentford finally broke the deadlock after 25 minutes, as Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa proved a menacing pair in the open field once again. Mbeumo got on a through ball down the right side and hit a brilliant first-time cross to the back post, where Wissa arrived and stretched to touch it home.

Though the possession split finished dead even at 50-50, Brentford continued to batter Burnley for the rest of the first half, and then some more after the restart. Just after the hour mark, Mbeumo sent a screamer past James Trafford to make it 2-0 and take his tally to five PL goals this season.

Connor Roberts was shown a second yellow card in the 78th minute, and Burnley were reduced to 10 men for the final quarter-hour. Naturally, Brentford made them pay with another stunning goal from outside the penalty area, this time from Iran international Saman Ghoddos, after the Clarets initially cleared a corner kick.

Utter domination sees Brentford back to winning ways

Luca Koleosho had Burnley’s best scoring chance of the game, an open-net opportunity in the 75th minute, but the 19-year-old USMNT-eligible winger flubbed the finish in a manner which perfectly summed up the Clarets’ day. That “shot”: 0.88 xG. Burnley’s xG: 1.07 on six total shots. Compare that to 2.81 xG on 23 shots for Brentford, who looked like their old rabid selves despite the absences of Ivan Toney, Kevin Schade, Rico Henry, Aaron Hickey, Mikkel Damsgaard and Keane Lewis-Potter.

15 of Brentford’s 23 shots came from inside the penalty area, as they put 10 on target and might have scored five or six if not for a solid performance by Trafford in goal. Inversely, Burnley 23 goals conceded are most in the Premier League this season, just as their -16 goal difference also ranks bottom.
