Who Is Zach Attack 25

Zach Lu’s abiding commitment to timepieces began at age 15. When the hands of his cherished Gucci Quartz suddenly stopped ticking, Zach was devastated. “I wanted to know how to fix it but there was no instagram, no facebook, no twitter and my family wasn’t into watches,” he said. “I went to a bookstore to look for available options and read whatever I could.” Although Zach later discovered that the quartz only needed a simple battery change, the extensive horology research he had inadvertently undertaken became the spark that kindled his early collecting journey. He was at hand during Geneva’s Antiquorum in honor of Vacheron Constantin’s 250th anniversary, and his discerning educated eye and penchant for tasteful pieces intrigued stalwart watch experts. For instance, Philippe Stern, the Patek Philippe CEO in 2005, extended a personal welcome to Zach. Before he had time to catch his breath, Zach and Stern were dining together and talking shop. “The first lunch changed my life, and inspired the direction of my collecting journey,” said Zach. “I developed great respect for Patek.”

And indeed, seventeen years later, many of Zach Lu’s Instagram posts feature famed Patek pieces. Most recently he photographed his wrist sporting the platinum Grand Complications Black Dial Minute Repeater 5374P, which was also recently worn by Oscar-nominated Mark Wahlberg; incidentally, Zach also poses with Mark Wahlberg in another post as the two keep their wrists on display together. On July 13th of this year, Zach used his social media to announce that Patek had given him an allocation of their vintage-style rose-gold Time-travel Chronograph, or the Nautilus 5990R; the laughing emoji on Zach’s caption commented on how stunned the young collector must have felt at owning the same watch as Jay-Z. In addition, Zach owns the Grandmaster Chime 6300 with its unique reversible case and the Grand Complication Sky Moon Tourbillon 6002R with its ornate rose-gold and brown enamel, also known as the most complicated and second most complicated Patek wristwacthes, respectively. And, in what he cites as his “most memorable acquisition” to date, Zach was given the fortuitous opportunity to purchase a Patek and Tiffany & Co. co-signed Nautilus watch after underbidding on the same piece in an in-person auction; the original buyer had to bail out for undisclosed personal reasons, and the Patek and Tiffany management decided that Zach’s buying history with Patek was strong enough to offer Zach the auction example. Zach unboxed the watch on an Instagram video on January 28th this year, and then dotted his Instagram grid with pictures of his wrist sporting Tiffany Blue in the months that followed.

Zach Lu is also a devoted Richard Mille client. In December 2021, Zach showcased the RM 52-05 on his wrist and captioned it his “favorite sapphire of all time”; he adds that only Pharrell Williams could make a watch whose dial featured an Earth view from Mars and called Williams, the “king of sapphires”. He also treasures his limited edition Rafael Nadal RM 27-04-which came with the added perk of interacting with the tennis legend-among other special RM pieces. And Zach said, “I’m going to be interested in Richard Mille for a long, long time. I love their futuristic design.”

Zach Lu finds himself looking back on his horology, and specifically on his years of pre-prominence, quite routinely. “I love seeing younger collectors,” he said. “I see myself in them sometimes, even though I started at a different time. It’s bittersweet. It reminds me of getting older.” He added, “Don’t get me wrong. I love where I am.” And if the plethora of likes his posts receive—often near 20K—his followers also like where he is in his journey.
