While big expansions get most of the attention, Seasons are what keep Destiny 2 alive throughout the year.

With an average of 4 seasons per year, they are responsible for most of the new gear and activities that keep us coming back for more. Seasons are the backbone of the game’s roadmap and future.

Destiny 2 Seasons in order

A total of 23 distinct Destiny 2 Seasons have been released so far. This list covers all 23 seasons in detail, including their start and end dates, Power level caps, and endgame content.

* For the sake of clarity, Bungie’s 30th Anniversary pack was not technically a season. That said, it was more expensive than a Season and acted as a Season following the massive delay of the Witch Queen DLC.

New Destiny 2 season

The current Destiny 2 season is Season of the Wish (S23) and features, among other things, a brand-new dungeon. We cover in detail everything that is planned this Season in this Destiny 2 Calendar.

Next Destiny 2 season: A move to Episodes

We already know that Season of the Wish (S23) will be the last Season of Destiny 2. As confirmed during Bungie’s The Final Shape livestream, Destiny 2 will replace the current Seasons with Episodes. Episodes will probably be very similar to Seasons in content (a seasonal activity, a weekly storyline, and a raid or a dungeon).

However, Episodes are meant to be longer, lasting 4 months instead of 3, and will supposedly tell more standalone stories, unlike the current seasonal model, which aims to tell an evolving story that builds towards the next DLC.

We will know more about Episodes as we get closer to The Final Shape DLC, scheduled for June 4, 2024.

What to Expect from a Season

Seasons are a great value and are absolutely worth the $10 they cost. Not convinced? Just look at everything you can expect from a Season in Destiny 2:

• New story missions
• A new seasonal activity
• New weapons (10+ per season)
• New armor sets

Plus, Seasons often come with new content that is available to both season pass holders and free-to-play players. For example, some Seasons include:

• Reprised Raids (such as Vault of Glass)
• Dungeons (such as Prophecy)
• New Playlist, Nightfall, and Iron Banner weapons

What not to expect from a Season

Seasons are, a great value, but you can’t be surprised that some things are only available with the purchase of more expensive Yearly Destiny 2 Expansions.

These are the pieces of content that are generally reserved for yearly Expansions:

• A new story campaign
• A new activity (like Nightmare Hunts or Empire Hunts)
• A brand-new raid

And, of course, Expansions also offer accessible things to free-to-play players. Some examples:

• A new destination
• A new element (like Stasis or Strand)

While seasons all cost the same, $10, the same can’t be said about their quality levels. Some were real bangers, while others left a lot to be desired. That said, the quality of Seasons continues to improve over time. I expect Lightfall’s seasons to be among the best we’ve seen so far.
