Which Pureology Shampoo Is Right For Me

After another thorough rake and rinse, it was time for conditioner. Now, I know I said the shampoo smelled amazing, but damn! Nobody warned me about the conditioner’s surprisingly minty scent. Imagine pulling out a carton of Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream (the best mint ice cream out there, don’t @ me) — and then pouring it all over your head. That’s what the Pureology Hydrate Conditioner smelled like in my steamy shower: creamy, melted mint ice cream. And it felt like that in my hair, too (minus the added stickiness, of course).

With only a dime-sized dollop in hand, I combed the conditioner through my mids to ends using my fingers, making sure to skip my roots. Then, I… waited. Well, that’s not true. I very much care about the environment and my water usage, so I just pivoted to another critical shower task: the art of shaving my legs.

Once I wrapped up leg number two, I began rinsing out the conditioner, which was quite pleasant, if I do so say so myself, thanks to the addition of menthol in the formula. What should have been just another rinse-and-go felt more like a cooling scalp treatment. I didn’t want it to end.

After hopping out of the shower, I wrapped my hair in a microfiber towel, applied my nightly skin-care routine, and went to bed. Come morning, after air-drying, my husband complimented my clean hair, noting how “nice” it smelled. (Thanks, my dude.) It looked good, too: Soft, smooth, and, a bit brighter, in terms of color. The yellow tones that began creeping up a few weeks ago nearly vanished overnight. Consider me impressed!

Three days later, when it was time to re-wash my hair for the second time that week, I reached for the Pureology Strength Cure Shampoo and Conditioner to tackle another fun blonde issue I wasn’t ready for: breakage.

This set is made with antioxidant-rich astaxanthin to help heal brittle hair, Keravis, a vegetable protein that helps prevent breakage, and vitamin E to fight color fading. And just like its sibling set above, this duo is also vegan, paraben-, and sulfate-free.

For this sudsing session, I wet my hair and applied about a dime- to nickel-sized dollop of the shampoo to my hair, gave it a good massage, and then rinsed it all out. I did this process twice, because, as I mentioned before, after waiting three days to wash my hair, it was in need of a double-wash.
