Great Gatsby characters

The Great Gatsby is a novel written in 1925 by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It is known as one of, if not the best, American novels of all time. It takes place in New York, and the characters in The Great Gatsby are ones of money, wealth, excess, and elegance. Jay Gatsby is a mysterious millionaire who throws massive parties but longs for Daisy Buchanan, his long-lost love. She married Tom Buchanan, who is unfaithful to Daisy. Tom cheats on Daisy with Myrtle Wilson, who is married to George Wilson. Nick Carraway is new to West Egg and lives next to Gatsby’s mansion.

Nick befriends Gatsby and helps the reader understand what is going on by narrating the story. Nick describes what’s happening throughout and provides insight into all characters’ minds. It discusses the American Dream, and many different storylines lead up to tragedy. Some characters are based on real people from around that time period.
