History of Reedley CA
The roots of Reedley started with the vision of an American Civil War hero named Thomas Law Reed. Originally, Reed settled in the area to provide wheat for Gold Rush miners in the mid-1800s. With the expansion of the railroad system in California, he donated a portion of his land for the development of a railroad station site. The site developed into a town which became the center of the booming wheat business in the the San Joaquin Valley. The town was then named after him by the Railroad officials.

The city has more than a 100-year old tradition of tree, and vine fruit harvesting. It all started when the demand for the wheat dropped following the diminishing mining activities in the area. In 1913, the city embraced more improvements such as the development of cement sidewalks, and sewer systems. In the same year, the first steel water tower was built. To expand the population the settlement, farming families that immigrated from Europe were then recruited to settle in the fledgling town. This led to its incorporation in the same year. In 1988, Reedley, CA celebrated the first 100 years of its multicultural heritage and the 75th anniversary of incorporation.
