Why Didn’t Bradley Beal Play

Phoenix Suns star guard Bradley Beal was looking forward to resting during the All-Star break, but also staying sharp with workouts.

“A little bit of both,” Beal said after Monday’s practice. “You got to take a little reset, you got to recharge the body, recharge the brain, get ready for the second half. It’s always a snap of the finger and it’s gone, but at the same time, I’ve missed a lot of time early on so my body feels good. I just want to keep it where it’s at. Keep working on my game a little bit, too.”

Looks like Beal will now have to spend time rehabbing a left hamstring injury he suffered early in the first half of Tuesday’s win over Sacramento. Beal has been ruled out Wednesday’s matchup against Detroit (8-45) in what will be Phoenix’s last game before the All-Star break.

“They don’t think it’s too serious,” said Suns coach Frank Vogel as he’s calling it a left hamstring strain. “Hopefully with the break right after (Tuesday’s game), he doesn’t miss too much more time. We’ll see where he’s at.”

Beal only played five minutes in the first half Tuesday, scoring five points on 2-of-2 shooting. He checked out with 7:21 left in the first quarter and didn’t return.

“I’m not sure what play (Beal suffered the injury),” Vogel said.

Beal missed 24 games earlier this season with back issues and a right ankle sprain.

He’s been playing with a broken nose suffered Jan. 21 at Indiana. Beal has worn a mask ever since. The Suns (32-22) are now 14-8 with their Big 3 of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant and Beal in the lineup.

Eric Gordon got the start in the second half Tuesday as he scored 23 points with 20 coming in the first half.
