It’s a triple murder that hit very close to home here at WAFB. One of the victims is the son of a station employee. But there has been a break in the case – the murder weapon has been found.
It was early Sunday morning, April 3rd of this year, and South Sherwood Forest, just south of Interstate 12, was about to get very busy.

According to Detective Robert Schilling, “A uniform patrol officer was northbound on Sherwood Forest when he noticed a car crashed into a pillar at the bank. He turned around to investigate the accident.”
What he found was no accident. Inside the car, 25-year-old Ivy Smith, 26-year-old Kevin Henderson and 23-year-old Joshua Thomas, had all been shot. Police say it appears that someone pulled up alongside their car, and opened fire. They believe the shooting was the result of an altercation at Club Shenanigan’s earlier that evening.

Kenya Jarmon, Ivy Smith’s sister, was at the club that night, and was at the scene after the shooting. She said, “When I realized that he was laying on the ground, I immediately ran by his side and started to give him CPR.”
But it was too late. Both he and Kevin Henderson died at the scene. Joshua Thomas was transported to the hospital.
Joann Thomas, his mother, says, “He kept breathing for two more days. Then his heart just stopped.”
And just like that, three murders. Kevin Henderson had just paid his mother a visit a few days before. “The last time I saw him, he came by and painted the porch,” said Ruby Franklin. He would never make it back to finish his work. “I miss my baby so much.”

Joann Thomas shares Ruby’s pain. “This has made me feel and know what it is to have a broken heart. It’s painful… and I don’t know if the hurt will ever go away.”
Two weeks after this shooting, another murder turned up two suspects and a gun. The gun was matched to the triple homicide, but the two suspects from the later murder were in jail at the time during the triple murder, so somebody must have passed them the gun. BRPD is pursuing this right now.
As for all those lives lost, there is no going back. “The devastation and the hole that’s left in the hearts of the people left behind, you can’t fix that,” says Joann.
