In the 2024 campaign, American Frances Tiafoe will have a new coach. This week, Tiafoe announced that he and his three-year coach, former world No 6 Wayne Ferreira, had parted ways, and that he is now working with Diego Moyano.
Moyano, who is originally from Argentina, has previously worked with several top players including Kevin Anderson and Coco Gauff, as well as with the USTA’s player development programme, where he worked with Reilly Opelka, Tommy Paul, and Tiafoe.

The 25-year-old American termed their reunion a “full-circle moment” in an Instagram post announcing their cooperation on Thursday, while Moyano said he is “so excited, motivated, and with a lot of responsibility for this great challenge ahead of us” in his own post of a photo of them.
In addition, the 2022 US Open semifinalist wrote a parting note to Ferreira, referring to him as “my guy.” The two first came together in 2020, with Ferreira serving as a co-coach alongside Zack Evenden before taking up the position alone in 2021.
“Just wanted to say thanks to this guy,” Tiafoe wrote in an Instagram story. “Three years shared together … Sheesh, we had a ton of success. But sadly we’ve decided to part ways. Thanks for getting me to the player I am today. Nothing but love and respect for you.”

Tiafoe achieved new heights with Ferreira as his coach, debuting in the Top 20 in 2022 and top 10 in 2023, respectively, and earning two titles this year. Last year, he became the first American man to reach the US Open singles semifinals since Andy Roddick in 2006, defeating Rafael Nadal and Andrey Rublev on his way before falling to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz in a five-set thriller.
On tour, Tiafoe has proved to be a tireless worker who has been involved in some highly entertaining matches and there seems to be more to come from the talented young man. Praised for his work ethic at just eight years old, Tiafoe stands out from the class when it comes to the next generation of US men.
Moyano and Tiafoe will make their tournament debut as a new coach and player pairing in just two weeks, when Tiafoe competes in the ATP 250 event in Hong Kong.
Tiafoe admits that his desire to win a Grand Slam trumps any rankings goals he has.
“Ultimately, I want to stay in the top 10,” Tiafoe said
“I want to be No. 8, I want to be No. 7, No. 5, No. 1, obviously.

“But, I mean, flat-out truth, whether No. 10 or No. 5, I just want to win a Slam at this point. I don’t really care if I’m No. 3.
“If I’m No. 3 in the world and never won a Slam, that would be hard for me.
“I could have been No. 19 but I won a Slam. That’s how much winning a Slam would mean to me.
“At this point now, cracking top 10 is great, a huge milestone for me and my family.
“Now it’s about winning Wimbledon. If I do that, I don’t know if you’ll see me again. No, I’m joking but it will be one hell of a day.”
