Gryffindor was one of the four Houses of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, founded by Godric Gryffindor. Students sorted to this house had to possess characteristics he most valued, such as chivalry, courage, determination and nerve. Gryffindor’s emblematic animal was a lion and its colours were scarlet and gold since the house corresponded roughly to the element of fire. 15. Godric Gryffindor
Godric Gryffindor was one of the four founders of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was Salazar Slytherin’s great friend but opposed him when they started disagreeing on whether to accept Muggle-born students at Hogwarts.

In his portrait, he looks like a tall muscular man with wavy red hair and a beard of the same colour and green eyes. He can often be seen wearing segmented red sword gauntlets and red robes with gold highlights.
He was a caring, determined and good man who valued courage and chivalry and was the most tolerant of all the founders, being for the inclusion of Muggle-born wizards into their school. He was also described as one of the four most powerful wizards of all time.
14. House Ghost: Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington
Sir Nicholas became known as Nearly Headless Nick after his death by an improper decapitation after a magical mishap with Lady Grieve. He also attended Hogwarts and was a wizard of the royal court as an adult.
As a ghost, he is slightly transparent and often has problems with his partially severed head that won’t always stay in its place. He is tall, slender, with long curls, a moustache and a goatee and speaks in a delicate tone.
He is a good spirit, always ready to help, especially Harry and other fellow Gryffindors. He is skilled in certain things, such as reading and understanding ancient runes, and charms and has a vast knowledge of Witch hunts of the 14th century.
13. Remus Lupin
Remus was the professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts and is one of Harry’s best friends and helpers throughout his years at Hogwarts. He was bitten by a werewolf when he was a child which left him afflicted with lycanthropy for life.
He is a tall, slender man with a pale face and short light brown hair that started turning grey in his thirties. In his werewolf form, he was a large monster with grey fur. Lupin is a good man, compassionate and full of love for his friends, loyal and always there to help others.
He possesses a great set of skills, such as non-verbal and wandless magic and healing magic. He showed talent at charms when he was a young boy and later proved to be a highly talented dualist.
12. Peter Pettigrew
Peter Pettigrew is usually referred to as Wormtail or Scabbers. He was put in the Gryffindor House after more than five minutes of deciding and during his years of studying he became one of the Marauders, together with his best friends, Sirius Black, James Potter and Remus Lupin.
He is an extremely short man with watery eyes, messy hair and a pointy nose, which pointed to his animagus rat form, together with his squeaky voice.
He is one of the weakest characters in the whole story, a treacherous friend who has always tagged along with the more intelligent and popular ones. He is an opportunist who allied with the side he thought was stronger and more prone to winning and in this way he became a hated individual no one loved.
11. James Potter
James was a pure-blooded wizard, a capable and talented young man who was a member of the group of most famous and powerful wizards of that time in Hogwarts. When he enrolled in Hogwarts, he became best friends with Lupin, Black and Pettigrew, but also a bitter rival to Severus Snape who lost the love of his life to James.
He was a tall and slender man, adored during his studying days and later a loving husband and caring father, before a cruel murder ended his life at an early age, leaving his son Harry alone and in the care of his friends and former teachers.

He was very talented in his youth but liked to tease other students, constantly trying to show off and proving his grandiosity. But in all these unlikeable characteristics, he still managed to find a nice word for many students and was against all kinds of prejudice, especially towards muggle-borns.
10. Lily Potter
Lily was a Muggle-born witch who found out about her skills when she was a child after Severus Snape recognised her and told her about the world of magic. She was Snape’s best friend but lost touch with him when she met James Potter and fell in love with him.
Lily was a beautiful woman with long red-brown hair and bright green eyes, a popular and happy-go-lucky student everyone loved. She was a good student and an incredibly kind person who always saw good in others.
She was a great witch, with many skills, especially in potion-making. She also managed to conjure a corporeal doe Patronus which is a mark of superior magical skills.
9. Neville Longbottom
Neville is one of the characters in the Harry Potter movies who went through the biggest change, from a shy and insecure child to a brave and determined young man, responsible for many important and heroic acts that helped Harry and the world of wizardry in general.
His parents were well-respected Aurors and members of the original Order of the Phoenix until tortured into insanity by Bellatrix Lestrange and three other Death Eaters. He was marked by a prophecy of being one of two children with the potential to defeat Lord Voldemort.
He became a good student and remained a loyal friend everyone can count on, proving that his biggest problem at the beginning of his life at Hogwarts was his low self-esteem and a post-traumatic stress disorder caused by the experience with his parents.
8. Arthur and Molly Weasley
Arthur and Molly are good-hearted and caring parents of Ron and his brothers and sister Ginny and highly skilled and talented magicians. Arthur works in the Ministry of Magic and is a member of the second Order of the Phoenix.
He is a reasonable man of principle who always wants to do the right thing but when knows how to react when someone doesn’t respect what he has and wants to say. Molly is his wife, a talkative and extremely friendly pure-blooded witch, protective of her family and their friends.

7. Rubeus Hagrid
Hagrid is a half-giant wizard who was trained and employed as a gamekeeper, allowed to live in a hut near the castle. He used to teach Care of Magical Creatures and was the first person from Hogwarts who introduced himself to Harry, being given the task of reintroducing him to the wizarding world.
Despite his enormous size and sometimes frightening look, he wouldn’t hurt a fly, being an extremely kind-hearted and heartwarming person who would do anything for his friends. He is very loyal but has problems with keeping secrets.
He loves unusual things and weird and possibly dangerous animals, magical creatures who he talks to and had a better relationship with the inhabitants of the Enchanted Forest than with some humans. But he always has time for Harry, Ron and Hermione, and especially his protector Albus Dumbledore.
6. Ron Weasley
Ron is a lovable ginger-haired and blue-eyed boy, Arthur and Molly’s youngest son and a talented wizard, one of the most responsible for saving Hogwarts. He is Harry and Hermione’s best friend, talkative and friendly, very loyal, strong and humorous, and always ready to make jokes.
He inherited his strong temper from his family so he used to get quite angry and spiteful when not treated right. He would also get a bit jealous in certain situations, especially in his later school years when his feelings for Hermione started to become stronger.

Hermione is a muggle-born witch who proved that you don’t have to be pure-blooded to become one of the best magicians of all time. Intelligent, wise, extremely capable and ready to learn, Hermione is without any doubt one of the most successful Hogwarts students ever.
Harry and Ron’s best friend, she is their voice of reason, the one who always thinks before she acts, but is also very brave and daring, especially when she needs to protect her friends. She was responsible for numerous revelations and helped save many students and teachers on many occasions.
She is extremely curious and hard-working, never misses classes and enjoys learning, often relying on logic, not solely her magical powers. 4. Sirius Black
Sirius is one of the most tragic characters in this story, being framed for many criminal activities by one of his friends, Peter Pettigrew and spending years in one of the worst prisons in the world. He was James Potter and Lupin’s best friend and Harry’s godfather but got to meet him when Harry was already a boy.
He was one of the best representatives of the House of Gryffindor, true to its ideals, brave and honest, good-hearted and ready to sacrifice for the ones he loves which he proved on numerous occasions.
As an adult, he would show his short temper more often, tired of being framed and always ready to fight and defend himself and the ones around him. A few times he demonstrated himself to be irresponsible, reckless and immature which ended in some unwanted situations.
3. Minerva McGonagall
McGonagall is a Scottish half-blood witch who became Head of Gryffindor House and the Transfiguration professor when she returned to Hogwarts after working for two years in the Ministry of Magic. She is one of the most beloved teachers at Hogwarts, strongly connected to her students and especially her house of Gryffindor.
She is an extremely powerful and talented witch, capable in many areas of magic, such as duelling, being one of the best in the field, transfiguration, charmwork and dark arts even though she did not practice them.
She is stern, calm and likes order and is held in great respect and sometimes even fear by nearly all students and teachers. Always honest, she isn’t seen smiling often and doesn’t give compliments to everyone, but when she does, everyone knows they did something worth mentioning.

The most famous wizard of all time, this young boy went through more in his first few months than someone in his/her whole life. He survived the deadliest curse, being rescued by his parents and left an orphan when he was just a baby.

His talent for magic for seen from the very start and he just kept growing and becoming better and remained one of the greatest ever.

Dumbledore is a half-blood wizard, one of the most powerful and greatest ever, a beloved teacher and later the Headmaster of Hogwarts. He is the only wizard Voldemort ever feared, due to his keen mind, intelligence and magical skills.
He is considered to be the most powerful wizard of all time, benevolent, extremely capable and wise, always looking calm and serene and ready to give advice and help everyone in need. He is also an eccentric figure, with an odd taste in sweats and flamboyant clothing.
He is an extremely talented wizard which in combination with his intellect and personality ends in being one of the most feared by his enemies and loved by his friends and colleagues. But he also has a few flaws and his greatest one has ever been, according to his words, too, a desire for power.
