We saw first-hand just how annoying a swarm can be. You can watch that in the video above.
Swatting…the initial reaction most people have when one of these buzzes by their head.
Sweat Bees have many at their wits end.
“They were everywhere. Inside my car, all over Notre Dame. They were flying on my face, in my mouth, everywhere,” said Noelia Rodriguez.

Garry Harrington is the director of Rum Village Nature Center. He says they are more of a nuisance than anything.
“They’re pesky, they fly around your face, they land on your skin, but they can’t actually sting.”
“I assumed they were just miniature bees and I also assumed they stung, so that’s the first I knew that they didn’t sting or anything like that because I have been very leery on them and I freak out when they come near me, like any other bee,” said Amanda Franks.
Harrington says the swarms come in waves.
“It’s just one of those times of the years where we see a lot of sweat bees, They are attracted to moisture, including water and people’s sweat.”
But he says it’s not normally this bad this time of the year.

“Really hot humid weather and I think it’s just conducive for the numbers to be going up.”
“It’s crazy humid out here today and they are everywhere,” said Franks. “They are as bad as the mosquitos are, if not worse.”
Harrington says relief isn’t simple for those who want to enjoy the warm weather.
“There’s not whole lot of things you can do other than doing the commercial repellents. So the things like Off and other products are your best bet,”
“Im still going to enjoy my summer no matter what,” said Rodriguez.
Many of the people We spoke with said these sweat bees have been all over their yards. But they say they tend to wait out the hot and muggy weather inside, until both the temperature and bugs go away.
