OMAHA, Neb. − Tennessee baseball is dealing with weather delays again.

First pitch of Tennessee’s College World Series opener against LSU was delayed until 7:40 p.m. ET because of a weather delay during the earlier game between Stanford and Wake Forest on Saturday.

Top-seeded Wake Forest trailed Stanford 2-1 in the seventh inning when lightning in the area caused a delay. That game resumed at 5:47 p.m. ET, and Wake Forest rallied to win 3-2.

Tennessee was scheduled to play at 7 p.m. ET against LSU. The Vols game could not begin until 65 minutes after the conclusion of Wake Forest vs Stanford.

The Vols battled inclement weather throughout the Hattiesburg Super Regional against Southern Miss, including before Tennessee’s 5-0 win Monday to clinch a spot in the CWS.

The start of the game was delayed four hours. The decision to delay the expected 6 p.m. ET first pitch was made at 4:35 p.m. ET. The game started at 10:06 p.m. ET. It was the third delay of the weekend.

The Vols and Golden Eagles went through two delays Saturday, the latter of which led to Game 1 being suspended. The game resumed Sunday and Southern Miss won 5-3. Tennessee won 8-4 in Game 2 to force a decisive Game 3 with a College World Series berth on the line.

Tennessee had a runner on first with one out in the fifth and a 1-1 count on Christian Scott when the game was delayed at 5:05 p.m. CT and eventually suspended. The second delay occurred 13 minutes after the game resumed. The first delay lasted 1 hour, 35 minutes.

UT had two runners on and two outs with a 2-2 count on Christian Moore at the time of the first delay. Moore struck out against USM starting pitcher Billy Oldham, who returned after the first delay.

Vols pitcher Camden Sewell entered and got three strikeouts in the top of the fifth between the delays.
