Where Is Made In Cookware Made

I’ve been testing and reviewing Made In cookware and kitchen knives for years, and I get dozens of emails every month with questions about the brand.

One of the questions I get most often is: Where is Made In cookware made?

Although the company is based in Austin, Texas, they partner with factories across the United States and Europe for manufacturing.

In this quick guide, you’ll learn where each Made In product is made. I cover all products, including cookware, bakeware, kitchen knives, and tabletop items such as plates, glasses, and flatware.

Plus, I share what Made In’s co-founder says about the company’s approach to manufacturing.

Where Is Made In Cookware Made?

Let’s get straight to the question: where does Made In manufacture its cookware and other products?

Made In stainless steel cookware is made in Italy, and non-stick pots and pans are made in the United States and Italy. Its kitchen knives, bakeware, carbon steel, copper, and enameled cast iron cookware are made in France. Dinnerware, such as plates, platters, and bowls, is made in England.

In the past, Made In partnered with Tennessee-based manufacturer Heritage Steel to produce its stainless steel pots and pans. But as of 2023, all Made In stainless steel cookware is made in Italy.

Made In makes its wooden products, such as the wooden spoon, butcher block, and rolling pin, in Hungary. Its grill press is made in Sweden.

The only product that Made In makes in China is the silicone universal lid.

Made In doesn’t disclose the exact city where each product is made, but when I reached out to them, they said the non-stick cookware is made in Wisconsin and Tennessee, a 5th-generation family-owned knife-makers make its knives in Thiers, France, and plateware is made in Stoke-on-Trent, England.

How Made In Chooses Where to Make Its Cookware

Most cookware brands either own factories or outsource production to large manufacturers in China.

Made In takes a different approach.

Instead of operating their own manufacturing facilities, they work with professional chefs to design the cookware and partner closely with factories across the U.S. and Europe to manufacture it.

I reached out to Made In’s co-founder, Jake Kalick, to better understand their manufacturing approach and learn how they choose where to make each product.

Kalick said, “All of our design and manufacturing starts with the question: How do we take chef-quality tools that you’d actually find trusted in a commercial kitchen and adapt them for a more elevated aesthetic so they’ll be a nice addition to your home kitchen.”

He talked about the connections he made due to his rich history in the restaurant supply business. In 1929, Kalick’s family started Harbour Food Service Equipment, an equipment and supply dealer for independent restaurants, chains, and corporate, educational, and government institutions.

“We have really close relationships with factories across the U.S. and Western Europe, thanks to our 100-year family business in the food service equipment space,” Kalick explained. “We often tap them for their manufacturing know-how once we have product designs (usually done in lockstep with our chef partners).”

He explained that Made In’s manufacturing partners are often small, family-owned factories. “In a lot of cases, we are growing alongside our manufacturing partners, investing in these facilities, and working together to grow the business. Our deep background in the food service space and understanding of the kitchen equipment industry opens up a lot of doors with these multigenerational family factories.”

When I asked what Made In looks for in a manufacturing partner, he said, “When it comes to finding where we manufacture, these places have super deep histories in the categories ingrained in the culture. For example, we make our knives in Thiers, France, where the highway signs have knife drawings on them, and our plateware is made in Stoke-on-Trent, where their Premier League team is called The Potters.”

The bottom line is that Made In isn’t limited to its own facilities. They seek out manufacturing partners with long, proven track records of producing the best quality cookware, knives, and kitchenware.
