Which Ship Is The Smuggler Starfield

Where there is a port, Land, Sea, or Space, there are chances of people smuggling illegal items. Search and Seizure is a side quest where you will be investigating one of these smugglers in Starfield. It is a short mission that will reward you with 3300 Credits and 200 XP.

You need to first complete the Eyewitness mission for the United Colonies, and A Break At Dawn assignment from Sergeant Yumi to unlock the Search and Seizure mission. Head to the UC Vanguard Security Office, located in New Atlantis. He will be waiting inside behind a desk.

How to complete Search and Seizure in Starfield

Search and Seizure can be violent or chill, depending on how you approach it. Once you talk to Sergeant Yumi in the UC Security Office, he will tell you about the increasing smuggling through spaceport.

Yumi will mention a tip they received of a ship potentially smuggling contraband. Your first task would be to head straight to Landing Site B and question the Technicians there.

Talk to the port workers

The port workers will be in the landing pad area, just roaming near the ships. Talk to them to gather Intel about the smugglers. The first one will dismiss your questions but the next one will give you some valuable information.

He shares that he did find a ship carefully transporting potatoes suspicious. There is no name attached to it but he will give you a jumbled-up Ship ID, which is as follows: UC57…6B. Along with that, he will also tell you that it is a Cargo Class Ship.

Obtain the ship records from Aegiis

The information from the technician is enough to find a match. Head up to Aegiis, on the top floor of UC Vanguard Headquarters, and talk to Agent Plato. You may remember this place and interaction from the Keeping the Peace quest.

Tell him about the situation and will give you a slate with information about potential smugglers. Read the “Potential Smuggler Ships” data slate and match the details to your clues.

The first ship will have potatoes as primary cargo and has a similar ID, matching the technician’s descriptions perfectly. The correct smuggler ship for the Search and Seizure mission is Anansi UC-576B.

Tip: You can find the data slate Plato provided you under the Notes tab in your inventory. If it is your first time checking it out, look under the New tab for quick access.

Take all the information and report to Sergeant Yumi in the UC Vanguard Security Office. Inform him about the ship potentially smuggling contraband. Here, you can tell Yumi the wrong smuggling ship name instead of Anansi.

Whatever option you choose, he will immediately tell you that the ship just landed at the port, and he will have it detained for you to go and search it.

Bug: Another ship on the landing pad despite choosing Anansi

There is a bug the player might face in Starfield during the Search and Seizure quest where another ship is parked on the Landing Pad B, despite choosing the Anansi. Unfortunately, there is no official solution as of yet.

This can be caused if another quest that uses the same platform is active. If the ship is Jade Swan, then it is most commonly caused by unfinished missions from the Crimson Fleet questline like The Best There Is. Completing them should resolve the issue, making the Anansi spawn on the landing pad.

Search the potential smuggler ship for contraband

Head to the landing site B and you will find the Anansi parked there. Take the ramp to enter the ship and head up to the cockpit using the ladder to meet Captain Malawi.

The Cargo Hold terminal is in the left corner of the room. You will find contraband inside, confirming that Malawi is the smuggler.

Talk to her and she will ask to be let go as a first-time offender and offer to come to some arrangement.

You have two options: Be honest and capture the contraband, or take the bribe and lie to Yumi.

Option 1 – Refuse to take the bribe

Starfield Search and Seizure Malawi

If you choose not to accept the bribe during the Search and Seizure mission in Starfield, Malawi and her goons will get violent. This will result in a firefight that you can easily win. Make sure to loot everything, as you won’t be able to board Anansi in Starfield once you leave.

Seize the loot and report back to Yumi to claim your rewards. You can still lie to him about the smuggling ship but it will be pointless now.

Option 2 – Accept the bribe

If you choose to hear the offer during the Search and Seizure mission in Starfield, Captain Malawi will offer you 2500 Credits in exchange for keeping the contraband and letting them go. You can take the bribe or use persuasion to negotiate and bring the number up to 5,000 Credits. Negotiating is easy, so you should be able to do that.

She will transfer the credits, and you can no longer seize the contraband. Please report back to Sergent Yumi and, this time, lie to him about the smuggler ship. He will trust you and still give you the same reward as you would have otherwise.

Option 3 – Secure the contraband peacefully (Wanted Trait Only)

If you have the Wanted Trait, you can choose the Wanted dialogue after taking the contraband. Malawi will understand where you are coming from and tell you to do what you need to do. This will allow you to take the contraband off the ship without fighting Malawi’s people.

Tell Yumi the truth about Anansi being the smuggler to complete the mission and get your rewards

Best choice for Malawi’s bribe in Search and Seizure

The best choice during Search and Seizure is to take Malawi’s bribe after negotiating it. This will get you an extra 5000 Credits along with the usual mission rewards. Since Yumi doesn’t pay you any extra for your efforts and the lying doesn’t impact any future missions, why not make a little extra money?
