When Did Bo Nix Get Married

Bo Nix arrived at Auburn University with big expectations. His father, Patrick Nix, was an Auburn football legend and Bo was named the starting quarterback for the 2019 season opener against Oregon. Ironically, the team Nix made his college debut against is the team he wound up transferring to.

After spending three years as Auburn’s starter, Nix joined the Oregon Ducks via the transfer portal after an up-and-down 2021 that ended with an ankle injury. Nix gained more than a new team and new teammates, though, because that summer he tied the knot with his girlfriend, Izzy Smoke. And as Nix makes his way to New York City as a Heisman Trophy finalist on Saturday night, there’s no doubt his wife will be rooting him on.

Bo and Izzy Nix Tied the Knot in Alabama

The dual-threat quarterback didn’t get down on one knee to seal a victory at Jordan-Hare Stadium. No, the Pinson Valley High School grad got down on one knee to propose to his cheerleader and longtime girlfriend, Izzy Smoke, before the 2021 season.

Smoke, before becoming Nix’s fiancee, was a member of the Auburn Tigers cheer squad. It appears she and Bo dated for about a year before he popped the question. Other than dating a starting college football quarterback, Izzy seems to live a normal and cheerful life, according to her social media. The Auburn cheerleader graduated from Auburn in May of 2022 and is currently living the life supporting the Oregon passer.

Shortly after she walked at graduation, she walked down the aisle at a ceremony in Alpine, Alabama to become the newest Mrs. Nix.

The two honeymooned in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico before settling down in Eugene.

Bo’s Fresh Start at Oregon Led Him to Heisman Territory

Nix was a huge target for former Auburn coach Guz Malzahn out of high school. He was named Alabama Mr. Football and a USA Today All-American as a senior and chose to follow in his dad’s college football footsteps.

Nix’s ability was evident in leading the Tigers to a comeback win over Oregon in his first game under center. He followed it up with a thrilling Iron Bowl victory over Alabama. His performance was enough to earn the Auburn quarterback SEC Freshman of the Year honors in 2019.

Nix threw for 2,415 yards and 12 touchdowns against seven interceptions as a sophomore while Auburn went 6-5 and fired Malzahn. As Malzahn went out, new head coach Bryan Harsin came in from Boise State. However, Harsin and Nix were never able to get on the same page, which played a big part in his decision to transfer.

Nix entered a new phase in his football career in 2022. With a new team, a new head coach in Dan Lanning and a new wife, Nix was ready to takeoff with the Ducks.

However, an opening week loss to Georgia derailed his triumph rise to glory in the Pac-12. The Ducks then spent the entire season ping-ponging their way through the rankings all the way to the 2022 Holiday bowl against North Carolina.

That wasn’t the last of Nix, though, as he returned to Eugene in 2023 to lead the Ducks to the Pac-12 Championship Game against Washington. Though they lost and missed out on a College Football Playoff berth, Nix helped reestablish Oregon as a national contender. He posted the best completion percentage in the country by a wide margin at .772 and threw for 4,145 yards and 40 touchdowns to just three interceptions. He rushed for another six scores, too.

Now, Nix is exactly where he could’ve hoped to be. And as he sits in a room surrounded by Heisman hopefuls and past winners of the award, Bo Nix’s parents and his wife will be cheering him on.
