My checklist: For me and my partner, the most important qualities in a sofa are comfort and ease of cleaning. We were in the market for a sofa that would be going in our theater area, so it needed to be something we wanted to sprawl on for movie marathons. We also have two large high-energy dogs who both shed constantly and have a tendency to come into the house muddy, so finding something sturdy that would be super easy to clean was paramount.
The details: You’d be forgiven if you thought Lovesac only made its namesake Lovesacs: a type of elevated bean bag chair that launched in 1995. However, in 2006, Lovesac introduced their “Sactionals,” an offering they arguably focus more on now. It claims to be the world’s most adaptable couch and, honestly, it just may be. The Lovesac Sactionals are comprised of combinable pieces, with “seats” (where you sit) and “sides” (the back and arms). The couches are endlessly customizable (they fit together like puzzle pieces), with the possibility to start small and add to it over time. If you don’t love your purchase, Lovesac also offers a 60-day home trial.

Price: How much does it cost? Are there payment plans available?
Though it depends entirely on which setup you choose, the prices for the modular sectionals range from $900 for a chaise, lounger, or love seat to just under $10,000 for a showroom-size sectional sofa. Our five-seat, five-side Lovesac was $4,500, and you can noodle around with different options on lovesac.com.
What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any?
Again, this couch is ridiculously adaptable. Not only are there about 20 modular configurations, but there’s also 30 popular fabrics, more than 150 custom fabric cover options, three fill choices, and accessories like coasters and built-in power outlets. We chose the Mediterranean Corded Velvet fabric, Lovesoft Luxurious fill, and opted to have three of the five deep seats be made for storage.

What is the lead time for customization, manufacturing, and delivery?
It only takes a few weeks before the Sactional shows up at your door, but we also chose one of the standard color and textile options. If we’d chosen something more unique, it would have taken several weeks longer.
Couch delivery + assembly
What was the delivery process like?
Everything was shipped individually—literally everything (So. Much. Cardboard. Truly shocking amounts of cardboard). Every insert, washable cover, and accessory had its own box, so we ended up spending over an hour breaking down cardboard to recycle at the end. Mercifully, most (not all) of the boxes said what it contained on the outside. The sectional ended up coming in nearly two dozen packages of varying size over the course of two or three weeks. Our living room felt like an Amazon fulfillment center while we waited for all the pieces to show up.
