Who Won Season 10 Of Kids Baking Championship

Nadya Alborz of Knoxville was named the winner of "Kids Baking Championship."

The taste of victory is sweeter for Nadya Alborz than it is for most — she was just crowned the winner of the Food Network’s “Kids Baking Championship” and given the $25,000 prize that goes along with it.

The 11-year-old’s victory capped off six months of keeping a secret. When she came back to school after filming, her classmates at Clayton-Bradley Academy wanted to know where she’d been.

“I had to wait until the show aired and then I could tell them that it was on and then it’s the pressure of not being able to tell them while it’s actually airing. You’re like, ‘Oh my goodness, are they going to expect that I win?’ and it’s very anxious, but I think I’m glad that the word is out now,” Alborz said.

Alborz hasn’t given in to her classmates’ request that she share her prize money. Instead, she plans to save some and donate some to an organization promoting autism awareness.

The Knoxville tween won with her impressive two-tiered San Francisco cityscape cake. It was one of many themed challenges she nailed.

“I think the cupcake pull-apart was definitely a difficult one. … I kind of had an idea but I was still like, ‘Oh my goodness, how am I going to do this?’ I have to make it in the shape of Saturn and also because of the time limit, it’s like so much pressure,” Alborz said.

Alborz competed against 11 other bakers from across the country, including fellow Knoxvillian Sarah Patel. Patel also appeared in the grand finale as one of the last three bakers standing.

When she was younger, she watched cooking and baking shows like “Kids Baking Championship” instead of cartoons. To win the show now is surreal.

“There’s other kids that are wanting to be on the show next season. Like, ‘Oh look, Nadya won, I want to be like Nadya,’ that’s really cool. They’re like actual people watching me on TV and cheering for me. And that really means a lot,” Alborz said.

She doesn’t even like to eat sweets

Alborz already runs a business, Sprinkle It, that takes custom orders for cakes. She enjoys baking for family and friends because she likes watching people enjoy her creations without having to eat them herself. Despite her baking prowess, Alborz doesn’t like sweets.

“I like salty things. Like, I’d prefer to eat a bag of chips over a slice of cake any day. So I’m really watching other people eat but I don’t eat because I don’t like it. And when I see them liking it, it makes me happy,” Alborz said.

Nadya Alborz already has her own custom cake business.

Her younger brother gladly steps in as taste-tester.

“I’ve made so many cakes for him. He’s getting sick of cakes. And now he’s asking me to make other things,” Alborz said. “And so now I’m trying to experiment and see what he will eat.”

For her next challenge she wants to make a hyper-realistic cake, like those starring in countless internet videos.

The show also gave her a chance to use new equipment like a blast chiller. Winning “Kids Baking Championship” is just another step on the road for Alborz, whose journey was helped along by local businesses.

Alborz thanked Sweets by Maya, with whom she took a macaron-baking class, for encouraging her to go on the show. Far in the future, Alborz may own a bakery herself – or become a veterinarian.

“I want to have a bakery that has things for people and pets, like when you walk in you can get a cupcake for yourself and a treat for your dog,” Alborz said. “And so that would be a cool idea because I could go to culinary school but at the same time I would always be able to see animals everyday.”

For now, she’s happy with lessons learned from “Kids Baking Championship” and excited to meet more people with the same hobby. Winning the show wasn’t only a sweet victory; it made for some sweet memories, too.
